more stages for Reading/Leeds

Y'see, this really makes sense for Leeds. Make the Relentless Pyramid area a part of the arena, put an even bigger DJ stage there, have it run 6pm-4am or something, with big name headliners at 10pm, put a bar there, make some money....

But by the sounds of it none of that could happen at Reading. Shame, because the Leeds atmosphere is really good now with the late night partying. (sorry to keep going on about it Readingers, but it's great)

But say for example they plan to book certain bands (the long awaited/rumoured Pixies/Pumpkins coheadline slot) with the new stages and amount of new bookings having to be made, it's likely they'll scrap the idea, get a good headliner and just go for average subs and midday bands instead

I'd much rather have a consistent festival than one with just a couple of great highlights

That co-headline slot will never happen whether they make changes or not, and has never been rumoured tongue.png

I understand your point, if that did happen it would suck but I think the extra stages and additions will be so minimal and cheap that they won't really affect the main stages.

However I'm not sure where they're getting the extra money from to do all this, I guess either more sponsorship or higher ticket prices. Raising the extra money by reducing what they spend on the main stages would be suicidal.

Could do, but then you'd still get people moaning that they aren't getting value for money as there are fewer bands. It would seem odd to increase the number of stages if you're just going to have the same number of acts but spread out across more stages.

I think what someone posted before rings true though, if your going to be more diverse you need the diversity to run throughout the festival from top to bottom.

I'm thinking FR / R&L are trying to sweep up some of the acts that would be booked by the many festivals that got cancelled this year. If they can pick up say 20% extra people of each festival that was canned they will be in a really strong position, it may help sell out Leeds again and at its highest ever attendance.

Also over the last two years it seems that the organisers are thinning out the number of bands on the main and NME probably in expectatio of becoming bigger. They have also been pushing newer acts higher up the main stage recently and to good effect, (the vaccines, Bombay bicycle club, you me at six) I'd imagine these acts are cheaper than the more established players. Save to invest to make more money.

Meh, people are fools, whatcha gonna do. Unfortunately people complain about tickets not being value for money without even considering what they're getting. These forums have shown that there are plenty of people who consider 50 average bands better than 30 good ones or a cruddy but massive headliner better than a good but small one as it's better value for money apparently.
