King Animal - New Soundgarden Album After 15 Years

Anyone checked it out yet? I've had a copy since Tuesday and have listened to it non-stop. As a fan since 1989 from which time they've been unquestionably my favourite band, I say it ranks among their best. Halfway There is the only poor track, which I've deleted from all play lists. Otherwise, it ranges from genuine Soundgarden (which is excellent enough) to brilliance.

The majority of critical platforms are giving it 5 stars etc calling it easily the best album of the year. I'd say decade or even new millenium. It took a while to sink in as an album though. The production was the first unfamiliar thing and I heard traces of Pearl Jam and Truly and QOTSA in there, but I liked it. Once over that, it started to feel like Soundgarden.

Over to you....

Was never the biggest fan, despite them having an incredible singer and great band in general. Heard some of the new stuff on Jools Holland. Thought it was ok but only had it on in the background really. Will pick up the album and listen to it properly.

I want to like Soundgarden and a like a handful of songs but I found them really dull at Download this year. There is no doubting the talent but the songs just don't do it for me.

I will get the album and give it some time though.

Is it wrong that I prefer Audioslave?

Their Download performance is the worst I've seen from Cornell. Solo twice with a good spread of SG tracks each time, and Soundgarden twice this summer (couldn't get tickets to Shepherds Bush sad.png ).

Haven't heard the new album yet (apart from Been Away Too Long which I like), but I thoroughly recommend Badmotorfinger as the place to start. Superunknown is the most accessible but Badmotorfinger is just better. Then delve into their back catalogue assuming you like.

And yes, it is wrong you prefer Audioslave.

Big fan but not majorly impressed by the new album, but wasn't expecting to be. A few good songs but a few others just sound like Cornell solo stuff. Doesn't affect my love for them at all though.

I haven't read any reviews but if it is getting five-star reviews then I'm rather surprised by that, both because I don't agree (although it's been a long time since quality actually mattered when it comes to music reviews) and because I didn't really expect anyone to give a shit.

I love Louder than Love. I was shocked and delighted by the inclusion of Gun and Ugly Truth in this summer's setlists.

Still prefer Badmotorfinger though.

Indeed I did. Crowd and volume were both a fucking disgrace, but the performance was cracking.

Definitely better, but still not that powerful. I'm using my shitty speakers and it's a youtube clip though, it should sound a lot better when blasting the CD through my proper speakers.

It's bollocks on youtube, but it's (and I mean this word) gorgeous through a good system mate. I have the 9.1 rigged up and it bounces all over the place. The mental percussion and time sig stuff towards the end illustrates perfectly how unique the relationship and understanding between each member of the band is. The sharpness and flatness of youtube completely undermines the groundedness, softness and bounciness that the bass gives it. I could eat the fucker.

Everything's bollocks on youtube.

I've listened to a fair few SG songs on youtube when away from my music collection, and it's fucking pants compared to doing it properly. I have no doubt this'll be the same. I don't judge songs badly because of how they sound through a youtube clip.
