probably not. There's nothing young people lie about as much as they lie about sex.

Lordy lordy....I can't imagine when I was young I would have had the confidence for this. Blimey, I'm a bit old fashioned I know but this would never have been on my radar as a young woman.

Give them a chance, once the 15 year old finish reading the book they will want to try it for themselves.

I know people who have tried this sort of thing before but it's normally just an one off and they never go back to it and even then it's not in great numbers.

I'd still be surprised if that many young people were confident enough to get naked in a room full of other people and engage in this daisy chaining. It just cant be that common surely.

Unfortunately I never hung around with women in my youth that would dream of partaking. I knew plenty of men mind that would have been up for it!!

No, I'm sure as a parent you'd know.

Certainly, after getting to know each of the explorers, it's usually pretty easy to tell which are likely to be sexually active or inactive, which drink and which don't, which might get involved in multiple partner fun etc etc.

This is of course true. However, this isn't one kid telling other kids or an adult about an experience they had with a different group of people - which is easy to lie about. This is groups of kids discussing what they got up to with each other and others.

In which case the amount of it you're hearing of is probably more to do with the particular group of kids you're mixing with than those kids being typical.

I know the sort of thing you're talking about supposedly happens, as it's been commented on a fair bit in the papers in the last few years. But from those paper comments it appears to be London centric, and within certain youth sub-cultures rather than all-round.

But perhaps it's more widespread than i'm thinking. I'll do a bit of subtle quizzing of my kid to try and get a perspective on it - as he knows kids in London but lives a long way away from there he might have a good handle on it.

That's true, but I still can't believe this is common. We have two kids one 19 and one 16, now I know they have their own secret lives but I just don't see this as being common to them either. I'm sure I'm not just being mummsy about this....am I ?

I do think there does seem to be a leaning towards teenagers becoming involved in much more explicit sexual acts than we ever did. I certainly remember cases as a teacher of girls being filmed with boys at the weekend, and those being passed around at school. Add in the obsession with hairless vaginas that seems to have been fuelled by porn and becoming an ever younger obsession... It all makes me pretty uncomfortable!

Didn't C4 do a sex ed series that talked about some of this stuff? ie perception from porn vs reality amongst teens?

I am intimidated that my mum and aunts have read it and openly discuss it...

Funny sometimes when you notice women on a train or something reading, happily then their expression changes when they get to what I presume is a naughty bit!).

I am only 23...have I missed out on these sexual things, teens are doing now?! I seem to have lived sheltered life if this what we supposed to be up to! (Mind it wasn't until we was about 13 we discovered internet porn back then and even then most people only had dial up...)

I get the impression that it's being used as a kind of intimidation (maybe too strong a word ) almost.

Women I know who have read it bandy it about like it's something they want and are not getting kind of thing. Not to say they want to be subjugated, or maybe they do. They proudly discuss it as if it's an ideal they want their men to be and which they are not. That's seems a bit sad to me. Particularly in mixed company, goading almost.

Oh Gawd, do I sound like Mary Whitehouse for those of you that remember her.
