But there's really not much sex in it! I imagine it's like a sexed up Twilight (which given it started as fan fiction makes sense).

I get the impression that it's being used as a kind of intimidation (maybe too strong a word ) almost.

Women I know who have read it bandy it about like it's something they want and are not getting kind of thing. Not to say they want to be subjugated, or maybe they do. They proudly discuss it as if it's an ideal they want their men to be and which they are not. That's seems a bit sad to me. Particularly in mixed company, goading almost.

But after reading the first one, I don't think she wanted to be dominated. She was supposed to be strongly attracted to him, and prepared to try it because he wanted her to.

I can't remember how the first one ended now, I don't want to spoil the plot for anyone who hasn't read it yet, anyway.

Each to their own of course, but even if it had been well written I think I would have had problems with it, because of the whole subjugation thing.

I've always thought 'we' are one of the least liberated societies sexually (compared to other Europeans), and possibly emotionally too... that's why a book like 50 Shades would do so well. Maybe it's why 'we' need to get drunk to feel liberated
