At the end of the day some people will still be offended and read far to much into it. The woman I know is barking mad and gets offended by the slightest thing. She hates the standard "romance" and finds seduction to be oppressive and tantamount to rape.

One thing does interest me though. It would seem from the book sales that we are not as sexually open or liberated as I thought, both as a society and as couples. There has been far better literature around for decades and it seems like the Joy of Sex never happened. I am quite a prude outside but I thought it was perfectly natural to experiment, often using erotica and porn either for inspiration or as a tool. Given the development of High Street stores like Anne Summers I find it incredulous that so many people are saying the book has changed their life.

oo I love a bit of seduction. I could seduce Jack Reacher any day of the week. I have to keep reminding myself he's just words on a page.

50 Shades of Grey is a Mills and Boon book with some sex and sanitised sadomasochism thrown in. She does try to have a bit of character motivation in there, but I don't relate to the characters enough to care.

It's too standard and cliched - rich powerful flawed male sweeps sweet innocent virgin off her feet, wows her with his wealth, charm and sexual prowess.

It's too pink candy floss, superficial for me. If you're going to do dominance, do it properly, not romanticise it. Show its teeth.

Don't Know many who've read it, but did read a summary from a self confessed ' sub' who described it as ' domestic abuse dressed up as s & m for people who don't understand either.' Or words to that effect.
