traditional all the way, i dont want judging on my menu choice! more on the quality of the food.

for the starter I am breaking with tradition a little, I'm doing a smoked duck salad with a spiced plum chutney and homemade bread. we will be having xmas pud for dessert, but I am making my own vanilla ice cream with madagascan vanilla pods.

Can anyone please recommend some good xmas flicks? My girlfriend wants to watch a xmas double bill but most of my favourites have been on the telly in the few last weeks so not Die Hard, Scrooged, Elf, It's A Wonderful Life and if I don't come up with something she's threatening to make me watch Tim Burton crap.

Mrs Grumpyhack has just done a course in Festive Cooking at a Vegetarian Cookery School in Bath, so I'm really looking forward to the fruits of her labours.

Christmas catering for the family tends to be a bit of a nightmare. Mrs GH is veggie but we'll also have a couple of South Africans here who are hardenend carnivores, so a free range turkey from some people we know. Also a daughter who's wheat/gluten intolerant, so as well as traditional Christmas pud there will have to be a wheat free alternative.

The Holiday is another feel good Christmas film.

I've got the whole of Christmas off for the first time ever in my working life, no Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year working. I finish on 21st and not back until 2 Jan - unheard of in my profession. My daughter's coming home from China too, sweet!
