After 5 years of Leeds I most probably wont be going in 2013. It's not just Eminem that's put me off, a washed-up character of his former self though he is, he alone is pretty harmless in the grand scheme of the fesitval. But when you put Eminem with the bad 2013 omens we've already had; bloody Boy Better Know, 1Extra Stage, the fact that Kasabian headlined this year, I'd say Reading & Leeds want a slice of the chav audience that V fest have. I'm not sticking around to see it turn into the squalid pit that V is, so unless the rest of the line-up is astounding (which we all know wont happen), I'm off to pastures greener; Glastonbury, Hop Farm, Latitude, Kendal, possibly even Download.

On a side note, I used to post here under the name "The Mean Bean", but earlier in the year some bugger gained control of my email address and I no longer know my log-in, so I created this new account. The reason for the new name is simple; I see you kids with your hippity-hoppity, dubbity steppy, beeping music that sounds like a man talking nonesense while R2-D2 has a seizure, and I wonder why nobody makes real music anymore, what happened to The Smiths? The Rolling Stones? The Beach Boys? Elvis? And... DAMMIT, YOU KIDS, GET OFFA MY LAWN!

On topic-related note; the unwashed masses on Facebook have been stirred into excitement by this news, a multitude of "EMINEM IS SIIIIICK YEEEE BOIIIII!!!!" updates have sprung up across the past day or so, far more than when the 2012 line-up landed in March. This data tells us one or both of these things;

a). The festival will sell out, and be filled with people dressed in chinos and dappy hats

2). I need to befriend a more tasteful calibre of people.

Although I an really a metal head!! I go to reading to get the cross section of music of metal rock and mainstream. So Eminem actually is a good starting point in term of announcements. It really leaves it open for anything. Plus I love Deftones so it's proving to be the right type of lineup for me. It'd be a very weak thing to let Mumford headline Reading now. Get Blur and Black Sabbath for the Other two.

Can't believe they've booked a radio firendly, pop act to headline. They should've got someone more alternative & less chart baiting like Foo's, Mumford, KoL or Arctics.

Loads of people did, if you're into pop rap music like that, it's amazing, not my sort of thing though. He's a parody of his former self, just a bit embarrassing how bland and forced his material is now. He's just not the same guy anymore, obvious reasons why, but it's just led to truly boring music.

Actually I was refering to the squabble.

As I said earlier, I think he's a good booking for the festival. They've shown quite clearly over the last 5 or so years they're not really interested in going for the more leftfield bands as headliners anymore (save maybe for the Cure) so if you're going to go the other way Eminem seems like a good choice to me. More importantly no one really had a clue it was coming, it's always nice to be supprised for a change!

Yea I think its a great addition to the lineup. His most recent album I thought was a great return to form. He doesn't perform much in the UK either so it's always good to get acts which you will rarely have the chance to see.

Obviously the dream Eminem set would be a lot based around Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show but on his recent double there are some great songs, like Not Afraid, Love The Way You Lie, No Love and We Made You etc...

Will be a privilege to see him live, one of my all time favourite artists.
