Not that im claiming i represent the whole demographic obviously, but Im 18 and myself and a large group of my friends would love to see them there, if not only for growing up with Chop Suey/BYOB/Lonely Day being some top metal hits. But even if people hadnt heard much of their music, most 18 year year olds love a good mosh pit :P

Reunion hype has become one of them most stupid arguments on here, it got to the stage where if any band has ever subbed or prebviously headline and broke up/went hiatus (in Bloc Party's case just didn't do anything for 2 years) there would be calls that they must be headliners when they come back but as been seen with The Darkness, Bloc Party, Soundgarden, Libertines, Faith No More etc it's not the case.

One thing SOAD have going for them in Europe is they never properly toured Hypnotize over here... in fact I don't think they played a single show here after Hypnotize until the reunion. So not only has their comeback meant the first time in seeing them in ages but it has also meant the first time hearing the new songs. It was so awesome finally hearing Tentative live... but then again it was just awesome seeing them live as I never got to pre-hiatus.

Have to agree with this, plenty of bands that have reformed and not headlined or reformed and no one batted a eye lid, i can also add detail for above and at the drive in to your fine list*

furthermore i think there has been plenty more hype about bands which haven't played for a long time, such as Weezer 2010 and really the reforming this 'ow shit i haven't seen this band play in a while', its not so much: they've reformed.

I think goes back to your simple booking principle- Do enough people want to see this band?

which in fairness is a value that is likely to go up if a band hasn't played for a while...
but then also surly there is a trade off and if a band disappears for too long and arn't big enough to get any new young fans (such as a artist like Pink Floyd has tones of fans, like me, who have never seen them and released their last album when i was one...) they would have drifted out the range of the target market of 16-22 and most people attending the festival won't give a rats arse if they play, such as death from above or at the drive in 2011.

That said I think System would be a very good booking providing there is another strong headliner. Eminem is a Huge headliner and i am 100% certain will shift tonnes off tickets for the festival just on his name alone. If you get someone else with a big pull... not gonna say the M word... You could possible tempt more ticket sales by reaching out to a 'niche' market; by having a 3rd headliner that appeals to an audience that would not necessarily want to come on the basis of the original two.

Also having a more 'metal' headliner could arguably fit in with what appears to be some attempt of 'diversifying' the festival- i.e with the 2 new stages

Do i think there playing? no, i don't a logical argument as to why so i won't put one.

*though i do believe hearing libertens didn't headline on the basis that they were quite a risky booking (i.e high chance of one of them ending up in jail/rehab) it doesn't mater anyway... 'Posh boys can't take drugs, man, they're lightweights' Liam Gallagher
Darkness started going down hill in popularity before they split up anywayz... it's arguable their popularity was more a novelty and after one album their appeal ran out for a lot of people. I don't really remember anyone talking about wanting them back during their hiatus.
