Would it be 'wrong' to choose to be gay?

I find it funny some conservative backbenchers moaning about legislation being past when the majority of conservatives voted against it. When will these people realise that the conservatives didnt win a majoirty at the last election and even if they did, others are allowed a vote as well.

The first past the post system which the Torys so strongly support has given a large majoirty in favour of gay marriage, far more than some of the other measures they have pushed through.

Its more than that. The word suggests there is an hatred towards that other group.

the very definition you've provided makes it clear that bigotry only requires intolerance.

Mind you, intolerance by itself is not bigotry. It's the difference between reasonable intolerance (say: for Al-Qeada) and unreasonable intolerance - such as with gay marriage, where nothing of gay marriage impacts into the private sphere of those who object to it.

But in the wider public we use the term to suggest someone is being hateful and nasty with their intolerance. Usually due to being unreasonable.
"unreasonable" is what is bigotry.

As gay marriage effects absolutely nothing in the private sphere of those who object to it, it's bigotry.

The public side of things is something completely different, where the law of the land should *always* win above private opinion - otherwise it would be right of me to say it's not right of the law to stop me robbing if that's what I want to do.

There's zero mileage in an argument that (say) registrars who are against gay marriage shouldn't have to carry out gay marriage, unless all law is to be abolished in favour of everyone acting on personal opinion.
