Yeah, I get that. I just hate the idea that you can't call shit bands shit, because it's people's oh-so-precious opinion. I don't think my taste is perfect, (damn close, but not perfect). I will always call shit bands shit, and if called out, I will back it up with justification as to why they're shit. The same people who call me out on slagging off pop-punk often dismiss the likes of Keane and Mumford and Sons in the same way I deride Green Day. I don't have a problem with music that is just there to entertain people, without it being better, or more interesting than other styles/bands, but I wish people would accept it for what it is, rather than get defensive and tell me off for daring to slag off a band they like.

Nirvana definitely aren't shit, but the crazy hype they got for nevermind was just that, crazy. I believe had that album not gone MASSIVE they would probably still be around writing decent, but underground songs still. But then foos wouldn't exist who are amazing. And Dave is just a good songwriter as Kurt in my opinion. (Prepares for onslaught) Either way, 3rd headliner. Could it be NiN, ACDC (just for you jump), sabbath, or a "shit" band making shit music and copying shit bands and only making music to entertain people which is just outrageous, because music shouldn't be enjoyed? Who knows

My opinion about Nirvana (if Kurt hadn't died) is that they would have carried on for a bit, maybe another album, then split. Foo's would still have happened, and Kurt would have gone solo.

Problem is, these things are purely down to opinion, so it's very difficult to dismiss any band as shit. The bands you've mentioned aren't trying to be anything more than what they are, and they're doing what they do well, which makes them a good band for what they are, and means they're going to have a lot of fans. An argument could be made for any band to be shit, there's no such thing as objectivity in music aside from single sales, album sales and tour sales. So it's best to simply say "I dislike this band for X reasons" as opposed "This band are shit for X reasons". You gain absolutely nothing from using the latter.
