Except he has every right at his own gigs to ask for them to be meat free. People either chose to go knowing this fact or they don't, he still sells out shows all over the world so it clearly isn't doing him much harm. He doesn't ask for festivals to be meat free & as such compromises his views. I fail to see your point to be honest.

I think the meat thing is ridiculous. Plenty of musicians abstain from eating meat, but don't demand that. Essentially trying to force tens of thousands of festival goers to all share the same views as him for the weekend. Imagine if someone like Grohl, for instance, converted to Islam and refused to play unless every attendee could recite a verse from the Qu'ran :L

Morrissey just seems a bit egomaniacal to me.

I agree, although it was Coachella who made the offer, not a demand from Morrissey, I don't think he would/ever has demanded it from a festival. His own show, sure, but a festival isn't just for him.

As a vegetarian I can't see the point in requesting something to be meat free, imposing your own views on others is stupid. The thing about him getting pelted with meat is justifiable, but to get pissed off because he could smell meat is silly. Does he refuse to go to restaurants that offer meat on their menu? Refuse to live in a town where people are allowed to eat meat?

This is ridiculous, he plays festivals all over the world that serve meat, perhaps the promoter of that Belgian festival used the meat free thing to entice him into playing. I don't see why he'd 'demand' they go meat free considering the vast amount of other shows he played on the same tour that served meat, just sounds like the press trying to make a story out of it.
