One word from Neil on who he THINKS it might be & everybody's suddenly acting like they've been confirmed. :sarcastic:

it's not what I think, it's my best guess which is a slightly different thing. It doesn't deserve the words of "what I think", that's far too strong.

I don't really think it's Green Day, it's just that I'm failing to think of anything better.

They couldn't sell out with last years line up, which was a lot bigger than this years. With green day headlining, i can't see them doing that well in terms of weekend ticket sales to be honest, especially since for big Green day fans, the Emirates will be the first port of call...

I can't see why people don't think Green Day, Eminem and Biffy Clyro wouldn't be a good set of headliners?

I think it would sell considerably well....

On the Green Day note, I could see people going to see them that like them, no matter if they are going to the Emirates or not, if they play reading it would be better value for money for them to do that! And what's wrong with someone going to a gig and a festival? I'll be doing both and I know a considerable amount of people that would too.

Great live act.

I never said it would sell out, I don't think many fests will these days to be honest bar glasto and V. Maybe I'm wrong, but festivals aren't just about the headliners, they are about seeing a variety of great bands, both small and big, over a fun weekend drinking with your mates - thats the experience you pay for.Regardless, this year you would have 2 arena rock headliners, one an oldie, one new to it all, plus the biggest selling rap artist of all time. You can't say they are "bad" headliners.

R&L doesn't have enough other stuff to justify your first point. It needs to constantly attract the younger market.

With regards to your second point, I'd agree its not all about the headliners, which is why it would be wrong to say its a bad line up, but I think its very easy to say they are bad headliners. It's hard to say just out of those three, but my money is on Biffy being the only day to sell out until about July. That's purely off those three though, the undercard will change things.

R+L is having a grime and dance tent this year, plus constantly have younger fresh indie acoustic whatever bands littered over the lineup. They are catering to the young. Green Day would cater to a lot of young guitar fans. Eminem would cater to alot of the ghetto kids. Biffy Clyro would cater to the generic rock crowd. Then there's silent discos, funfairs, and loads of available drugs. I don't think Reading will ever not be popular with the A Level / Uni age group.

And lets face it, we already have a great booking in System playing. If NIN play as well, we are doing pretty well

When you compare it to other fests, it has substantially less additional entertainment. The point I was objecting to was the "getting pissed in a field". R&L has to keep up with trends. Is it doing it with these three headliners? I don't think so. You can blame recession etc. which obviously does have an effect but I think lineups have been poor in recent years and have to be looked at with regards to bad sales.

With regards to your second point, even the most ardent NIN fanboys on here accept they will get a very small crowd.

I don't want to write the festival off just yet, but its not looking great, especially off those three.
