t8yman
After a little discussion in the TV thread, its appears that there may be a little confusion about where it is OK to post spoilers, I was gonna PM Neil and ask him to Edit the relevant thread titles to say spoilers / no spoilers allowed, but I dont want to assume that my opinion is exactly the same as everyone elses. So, its my opinion that if you go in a thread named "Breaking Bad" or "Walking Dead" it is assumed that people are talking about "water cooler moments" about the current episodes, IMHO - fine to post spoilers, and the reason I avoided the WD thread until I caught up. But the TV and Movies thread are for people generally discussing whats good and what isnt, and recommending stuff etc, therefore spoilers aren't acceptable. Ive added a poll, to see if people think it needs addressing or not, and maybe we can come to some agreement and Neil or Scottie could maybe edit the thread titles accordingly? The Nal
Can people not just use the spoiler code?
t8yman
but they dont, I dont mind people including spoilers if they are coded, but they dont code them. Edited February 7, 2013 by t8yman
5co77ie
should we use spoiler code when talking about line-ups then in case people haven't seen who has been announced of perhaps they haven't been announced? So forintance I know the 3 headliners for this summer's Glastonbury Festival are: ###############
t8yman
people obviously dont take this as seriously as I do, not knowing a festival lineup isnt a spoiler imho. you can easily ruin a movie or TV show with one errant sentence. game of thrones spoiler in here but finding out that sean bean gets his head cut off toward the end of season one of game of thrones will pretty much spoil the first season altogether to someone who hasnt watched it. thesecretingredientiscrime
The issue here is what's deemed as a spoiler, rather than the use of spoiler tags. I made an incredibly general comment which didn't reference any characters, any storylines or any aspect of action within the show at all. If I had given something intrinsic to the action away, I wouldn't have written it. t8yman
I know that on having seen the show since, but prior to watching it, it screamed "spoiler" at me, and I still don't agree that it cant possibly go to season 2. I'm coming across as a nazi, and I dont mean to, but you arent the worst offender anyway. yours was unfortunate, but I would have chosen to tag what you said if it was me posting that. thesecretingredientiscrime
Well isn't the question then, how general can you be with discussion about a show?
5co77ie
the trouble with spoilers is to a general extent it's just willie waving innit? My point with the headlining acts was - it's about knowing something that someone else may not - whether you want to tell the world and ruin it for everyone, or whether you want to discuss it in the fullness of time when everyone knows about it - is entirely up to the person posting. No amount of corrective spoiler tags are going to stop someone telling the world they know something they know others don't - if they want to. I find it interesting that this stems from someone saying the blindingly (excuse the pun) obvious that there can be no second series of a series on tv. eFestivals
if the people making the post aren't able to make clear whether something is a spoiler or not, then the admins here are not going to be doing it for them.If that's inconvenient to you I can only suggest you avoid those threads entirely. This is a discussions forum for discussions, after all.
t8yman
Fine, when someone asks "what films are great" I'll just reply "watch the sixth sense, its great. bruce willis is dead all along."
eFestivals
Fine, when someone asks "what films are great" I'll just reply "watch the sixth sense, its great. bruce willis is dead all along."if you wish to go against what you want, I'll let you decide what that makes you. The only point I'm making is that it's less the admin's responsibility for what is in a user's post than it is for that person who makes the post.I'm happy to spend a moment correcting what has been done in error, but it is not in any way practically possible for anyone - you included - to edit all posts so that they only say what is to the liking of anyone who might read them. t8yman
no that not what I am asking for Neil. I'm just asking that maybe you could edit the TV threads TITLE to "no spoilers please" and other threads such as Breaking Bad, Walking Dead etc to "warning, spoilers inside". thats all, I'm not asking you to police the thread, and as rufus pointed out, he was a bit confused that the walking dead contained spoilers galore, because its a "water cooler" thread about that specific show, whereas the general TV and Movie thread are more "general recommendation" threads. thats all. I dont think its unreasonable to ask people to be considerate and spoiler tag their post in the general thread if they are talking about specific episodes that many people wont have yet seen? t8yman
Breaking Bad is mine /topic/110686-breaking-bad/#entry2492242">http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/110686-breaking-bad/#entry2492242 its dead at the moment, but when the final series returns in June the thread will spring back into life! I'd like it to be titled Breaking Bad (Warning, contains spoilers) TGD and Rufus are the two "general discussion threads" which I would like to have "please - no spoilers" added to the end of them, but obviously thats up to TGD and Rufus. Ruwise
I think it would be useful if people posted whether things contain spoilers or not. I was certainly glad to watch Searching for Sugarman knowing nothing about it. I think it should be obvious if a thread is about a particular series that people will be talking in detail about it. In the general film/ documentary film ones I would hope nobody would give any major spoilers.
feral chile
I'd like some guidelines about spoilers, I tend not to post in any TV threads because I don't know what's acceptable to discuss and what's not. If Neil doesn't think there should be general guidelines, maybe it could be made clear by the OP whether spoilers are preferred|? Personally, I'm not all that good at following unwritten rules, I prefer things made explicit. Though whether we can do that without things getting heated is another matter. t8yman
Ive never seen that happen before to be fair, unless you are referring to me? But I always use spoiler tags...
AcademicPistol
I'm with t8y. I think the (not so) unwritten rule/guideline should be: a thread about a specific programe/film/book etc can be expected to contain spoilers, so read at your own risk. And a general threads eg Films, Documentaries, Tele etc you should use spoiler tags and if you are not sure if something should be spoilered do it anyway or don't post it. I don't think that's too much to ask
t8yman
Its nice to see that when people who regularly post in the general threads join this particular debate, a bit of common sense starts to creep in. Throwaway comments from people who never post in those threads dont add anything to the debate tbh.
