lukel
Apologies if this is considered spam - if it is then please delete it. I am a fourth year BA(Hons) Journalism student at Edinburgh Napier university, and I am currently in the middle of writing my dissertation. The dissertation requires original research material - I am gathering this through a survey. The survey is aimed at readers of all forms of music journalism, and revolves around my dissertation title: 'Is citizen music journalism and blogging causing a decline in music journalism quality and core values?' I would be very grateful if anyone could please complete the survey, which will form an important part of my research. The information provided will be treated with the strictest of confidentiality and no personal information will be given to a third-party. A copy of the results will be sent to all participants who request them (by Private Messaging me or replying to this thread). The entire survey should take less than five minutes to complete. The survey can be found here: http://freeonlinesurveys.com/app/rendersurvey.asp?sid=zhpvwlvxdsxa0uw186621&refer=freeonlinesurveys%2Ecom Thank you, Luke. grumpyhack
Hi Luke, I looked at your survey but didn't complete it as I'm not really a music press reader these days. However I was fascinated by your question: 'Is citizen music journalism and blogging causing a decline in music journalism quality and core values?' If you delete the word music and broaden it then you've got a really interesting question: 'Is citizen journalism and blogging causing a decline in journalism quality and core values?' To which I would say definitely yes. I write as a retired journo who still does some journo training - for example this week I'll be helping run NCTJ Proficiency Tests at Newport University. I find it amazing to see the range of quality in the work produced and even more so the huge difference in interviewing skills, and those in people who, in theory, have had journalism training.. If citizen journos had to sit the same exams I think many would be shocked by what's expected of 'professionals'.
