The final push is starting... get rid of those pesky poor people

it's only 'correct' is all thinking stops at that point and there's no adverse effects. ;)

We have a market system at the bequest of the taxpayer. For the taxpayer to then say that when they don't like it there shouldn't be a market system as long as nothing of that "don't like" has an effect back on them, it's gross stupidity.

The landlords are enjoying no restraint on their trade to earn big profits just the same as Barry is with software development. Spot the difference? I can't.

If it's fine for the govt to drive down rents via a limit to what they'll pay then why are they not doing the same with software development (and everything else they buy) too?

They could save the taxpayer a whole lot more than the not-a-lot they'll save on housing benefits. If it's the duty of the govt to work against the market system for taxpayers benefit then that should surely apply in all direct5ions and not just with houses for the poor.

This is nothing to do with saving taxpayers money. It's about beating the poor, and getting the poor* to beat to the poor with bullshit statements to create a divide and rule scenario.

And the 'poor' in this instance includes the likes of Barry Fish. He's no less victimising himself as he is those poor.

Well to be frank this system is not going to stop tax money going to landlords. All thus means is that landlords won't take families and just stick with individuals or small families/couples. Landlords always adjust to the benefits system and they will get their cash irrespective

Back in the 80s the Tories made people relocate too - 'get on your bike and look for work etc' . In the post industrial wasteland of central scotland, we did one of two things. Move to London and get on the money treadmill (like wot i did) or, if you were really smart, move to the pretty bits of the country and get on with your life. Years later a pal of mine said this about moving to Oban - ' I had the same dole money as I had in the city, and the view out of the window was a million times better' . Think she was right ?

except they DIDN'T ACTUALLY FORCE ANYONE!!!!

Dave Moron is starting to make Thatcher look like a socialist. He's certainly succeeding in doing many things that would have been a step way too far for even Thatcher.

We're only starting to see the full effects of Thatcher's legacy. And while most thought that would be the wrecked country we now have (Thatcherist economic ideas hold sole responsibility for the crash) it's far far worse than that, it's the political stupidity that now permeates so many of the electorate.

With all due respect, Thatcher was just a front for Nick Ridley, Willie Whitelaw, and the other members of the 'Star Chamber' . Don't peg her as some kind of policy guru, please. More hammer than blacksmith. F****g evil nonetheless. I lost four mates from my class of 32 people to suicide. We had a bench in our local where the young team sat, it was nicknamed 'Death Row' . If you want the truth about whether the 80s Tories didn't force anyone to move then I'll tell how it was in north Glasgow. People got out cos if they couldn't stand living in a graveyard. The whole place had been murdered. If you wanted to stay then you already given up. Okay rant over.

PS - Just to let you all know, when she dies we're taking up to Glasgow and burying her under the floor of the Barrowland dance hall.

you'll have to get the English to stop dancing on her grave first. They'll be stopping you from digging her up. :P

In all seriousness, I fully expect her grave to have a fulltime guard. Cos it's going to need it.

No disrespect Neil.

I'm mildy amazed at how touchy a subject his is for me, even after all these years (left school in 1979).

Could write a book about what happen in my area. Friend jumped off the the Red Road multi-storey flats after being made redundant one year from finishing his apprenticeship. Others OD'd . and so it went on. .....

Tell you what, you take her body - but we want her head. We need it to be the centrepiece of this.

...and this is who we're sending down there to collect.
(strong language warning, but no more than you'd get from Frankie Boyle or Jerry Sadowitz)

You're welcome :)

In an attempt to un-derail the thread, I would draw attention to the fact that those pesky poor people tend to do essential stuff, such as run the emergency services. Here's an example of what can happen if a government annoys them enough. The banner reads 'WE RESCUE PEOPLE, NOT BANKS'.

Firefighters in Catalonia announced on Tuesday that they will no longer assist in the eviction of residents from their homes... for failing to meet debt repayments in solidarity with the action taken in A Coruña, Galicia, where firefighters refused to help evict an old lady named Aurelia, who is reportedly 85-year-old, from her home.

You're right of course, Yog . This stuff doesn't get mainstreamed. But I posted it on the FB page of my local Fire Brigades Union. Reckon they should be made aware, if nothing else.

Some of the Occupy FB groups are getting seriously big, Thearg. Half of Greece seems to have recently turned Anarchist fer instance.

Thing about right wing economics is that it does create a lot more of those pesky poor people. A helluva lot*

Edit: *within the context of the 'developed' world.

PS - the Occupy movement also seems to have battalions of meme makers in its ranks :)

Never really been political this end. Really bored me. Now I've had an 'awakening' and suddenly thought to myself ' what the fuck is going on here? What a pathetic attempt we've all made of the world. Now, if I were in charge we'd all be tickling each other now. This is one of the reasons that 'they' don't let me loose at the reigns. Really though, it is mad. Unfortunately most people are greedy (I include myself there) and it makes a hell of a mess. I know what the solution is but don't know if I can be bothered pissing in the wind trying.

I have a decent landlord but I know the agents have been trying to put him under pressure with his properties. The agents owners set uo their business back in the 80's purely with the benefits system in mind. They have been saying to him about getting rid of people like me with one kid in favour of individuals on benefit. The landlord has a house a couple if doors away the same size and he gets 2 and a half times the rent compared to mine. That's for 3 individuals. Christ knows how that would translate.in London.

Reckon that makes you a classical Marxist

The historical inevitability of capitalism's downfall due to the fundamental instability of the system means that you just need to go about your business until the whole thing brings itself crashing to the ground. Never read Marx enough to know what he figured would come after that.

Tell you what though, them anarchists got some good choons
