Complete rubbish.

I just don't see what the issue is. I've been going to festivals & gigs for pushing 20 years. Most recent gigs have been Miles Kane & Jake Bugg.

I love the fact I can go to a festival and not only see the type of bands I go to gigs to see (Courteeners, James, OCS, The Vaccines) but also watch acts like Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Lianne La Havas, Rudimental - who I wouldn't necessarily pay to see on their own.

To say its for people who don't like music is an insult. I hate the insinuation that V was once something other than a 2 day pop festival, that's what it is and always has been.

The whole line-up thing is always completely over analysed on here.

I've been going to V since 98 by the way.

You've just reminded me- I was reading the V fb page earlier where there was a whole comment conversation on who this elusive 'James' was- so much some somebody created a picture with "James" circled on the line up stating "who the fuck is James?". The people involved concluded it was a typo and V actually meant James Arthur.

Well to add a bit of positivity, I wasn't going to go and am going purely down to the line up. Lots i'd be happy to see but four I am actually 'excited' to see - something T in the Park hasn't offered me much in the way of. Those four are Maximo Park, Beyonce, Jason Mraz and Two Door Cinema Club... bring it on!

yeah but alot of the older lot wouldnt bother comment on the facebook page so its only a fraction of the demographic. i find v to be FULL of older people to be honest, they definitely outnumber us young-uns (im 21) its more a dad rock festival in my experience. ive only been to staffordshire though, chelmsford might be different. Ive watched james the last 2 times theyve played v (2007? & 2010? i think) and although i rate them on record, they can leave a lot to be desired from their live performances, especially set-list wise. last time they had limited stage time and filled it with a lot of new material and only a number of classics (sit-down, laid)

Im happy enough with the lineup and will be purchasing tickets, its only half hour down the road. alot more guitar bands this year, which im happier with. thought last years lineup was alot poorer if im honest.

Oh don't get me wrong, I will be cramming in the acts like there is no tomorrow. I just love the joy of live music. However, what I'm saying is, if there's only a handful of acts you like and you aren't prepared to try other ones (which I think you should), there's a lot to be said for giving up the moaning about the acts you don't like and just chilling out with your mates and a drink. I still reckon it's probably decent value for the acts you DO like.

I've been having this debate the last few days. I love Glastonbury, my favourite place on earth BUT its so little about the music for me that I don't actually see it as a 'music festival' in the same way as V (not 'real music' or any of that rubbish, solid two days of watching bands I mean, whatever you're opinions of them) - I go to V or Leeds each summer for two days of music. This year have a lot of my faves on - Phonics, OCS, James, courteeners, travis, and a few newer acts like vaccines, of monsters and men etc plus I do like KOL despite the fact it's no longer cool to (its not cool to like most bands I listen to!). Glasto won't have the older acts as it generally tries to, well, not be V really. Two completely different places - but if you like solid days of music of the type V has, Glasto doesn't provide it unless you get very lucky with the lineup suiting your tastes. They just have huge headliners there. The one year I planned to do just Glasto I felt I hadn't been to a music festival so did V for the day to make up for it, though clearly from my list above I'm not very adventurous with what I listen to, but I like what I like and Glasto doesn't provide it, but it does provide a great experience where I'm not that bothered about the music anyway!

For me I have been to Glasto and last year went to V as a day ticket holder. Glasto of course wins hands down but like a couple have said Glasto is different. For me if there are 3 acts a day I like then it's a massive bonus, where as I would need to like a mass chunk of any V lineup (a headliner being a necessity) to get me spending my money.

Last year 2 of my favourites bands Killers and Snow Patrol (yep your all thinking how can someone like them), were on the same day. Plus managed to catch The Feeling, The Enemy, Madness, The Stranglers, Frank Turner plus parts of Timie Tempah, Rita Ora and Olly murs (I'm not proud of the last 3). Yeah it's expensive but so are gigs, and to see that many people, whilst drinking in the sun with mates, well it was worth it for me.

Even my mate who has soldiered on through the ever worsening years has decided to give it a miss this time.

He's another off to Glasto for the first time

I gave up after 08 or 09 (can't remember which) and it has progressively got worse and worse since to this new low.

There seems to be far less moaners in general now though, although I suspect this is just a reflection of how many people have given up and moved on, leaving it for the new crowd.
