Filling in the gaps!?!

I think it is more the lunacy of the suggestion that Green Day would be on second stage rather than them "not being metulz" I think they could pull off DL but they would be top of the bill main or nowhere but think that Reading's cheque book is a little more suited to them...

Back to reality... Not really sure who would fill those gaps though... I'm surprised that as Maiden are insisting that the second stage finishes before them that they don't just shift Enter Shikari to Friday "move" J.E.W. to top of the bill and be done with it... I mean, as the stage has to be closed before the main stage headliners its not like there is really a headliner on that stage on Saturday is there?

Another addition I would like to see somewhere on the bill would be Dirge Within, not sure if they have played over here before but they would be a great plus for the Slipknot crowd

Didn't see C & S, but thought Prodigy were amazing... Slightly concerned that I have no recollection of where I was when Chase and Status were on, looked at the lineups for all stages and I don't remember seeing any of the other bands... Another one of those festival blackspots I guess!

Ok, so back on topic...

Comparing with last years lineup:

main stage lineup is complete

Second we have 2 slots on Friday including headliner, 2 slots on Saturday and 2 on Sunday

Pepsi Max we about 1 - 4 slots to fill each day including the Sunday headliner

And about 5 or so for the Red bull stage on Friday, the other days look pretty full already so another... 17 bands to add to those 4 stages... Get close to full! So who else to be added there?

Surprised not to see Cradle of Filth on the lineup as they haven't been at DL for a few years now but they have been on main when they have played so unless they headline second I can't see them being added now, and wouldn't have thought them up against slipknot would be likely.

Ghost seem to have been gaining popularity and I know they have played the last 2 years but a step up onto second this year as they are doing the rounds at a lot of festivals?

Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Steve Harris' British Lion pop up on there somewhere

Candlemass are doing a few festivals around Europe and I think would be an interesting addition to the bill

Skid Row as Friday headliners on 2nd?

Just noticed that Imagine Dragons are playing Rock am Ring and Rock am Park, might be another curve ball to get on the bill somewhere, I wouldn't mind having a listen to a bit of indie sneaked in on a lower stage maybe?

Pah I have no clue... and I don't know why I am concerned, I am already going to miss more bands that I want to see than is healthy so why add more to the mix just to cause me more problems!!!

Agree with both Rival and Gringo... I'd love a few curveballs to be thrown in now, Pumpkins or Manics would be great... Although if Manics headlined second on Friday that would be a clash nightmare!

Got to think that if they were lining up the Scorpions for that slot then they turned out to be such complete see you next Tuesdays as they have done then it may be a completely left field headliner in there because they are all out of options... Download is an amazing festival but I have a really obscure taste in music so love a few random bands in there. I swear before the last announcement I said to my mate coming with me this year we need someone different now... Someone like Sonic Boom 6 would be cool... He looked at me blankly but I'll be there now!!

Other option is that you get previous festival favourites bumped up higher than they would necessarily be like Skindred or something like that or someone new on the scene but really popular, who I can't think of of the top of my head though!

Good call, and I'd be happy with that... Wouldn't cause me a clash problem :)

If we are throwing the Manics about out there how about Stereophonics? Doing a few festivals this summer and they have enough rock and roll tracks in the back catalogue to put out a good set. I would certainly be there for them,

Problem is that if Download wants to keep attracting people then they need to go out on a limb occasionally, otherwise the pool to pick bands from just gets repeated year in and year out. There have been several not really hard or heavy rock acts headlining in the past, aside from the obvious Prodigy the likes of Faith No More aren't exactly that heavy, but certainly rock and did a great job... Saying about bands being too mainstream to play? Remember both Feeder and Lostprophets have headlined the MAIN stage in the past, not even just second... As I said before I would love for an unexpected headliner in there rather than just repeating the same acts again and again... Take a chance Mr. Copping!
