Not going to lie, I know nothing of Chic (obviously scanning I realise I know most of the hits), but this thread and the excitement of others is convincing me I should be there. Will have a scan of this documentary also.

I convinced most of my crowd to see Stevie the other year and is one of the best headliners we have seen as a group.

Hoping Seasick Steve being on beforehand and the Cider Bus being there can convince people to stay around to see them, as they'll probably love it being there, it's just convincing them to be there in the first place!

Kool and the Gang in '11 was a real highlight so this is very very tempting. Does feel like a Sunday headliner though. Wonder if that may be the case and the poster is getting us unnecessarily in a spin about Friday clashes?

Just watched the Nile Rodgers documentary and it was excellent. Didnt realise that half of the talent of Chic was dead though . Made sadder by the fact that he chose to perform over going to the hospital where he would have probably saved.

Oh and that Nile has an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Here's wishing him all the best as he seems a thoroughly decent bloke.

Like most people on here, I am very excited about seeing Chic and Nile, particularly after the surprise (for me) fun of Kool and the Gang. Turns out, my girlfriend's son is also picking Chic as a must-see. Thing is, between us we own a bad recording of "Le Freak" and that's it, having given disco a very wide-berth for most of my years, and we have persuading of other halves to do. Which albums should I buy? Is a greatest hits the best place to begin? Is there a recent live album that really gets across what they're about when they perform now?

I am gutted the Chic are not on Sunday, i know all of my gang are going to be doing Chic but the pull of Portishead is too much. I have posted on this forum many times that i wish they played as i had not seen them play before, and it's too much to miss, especially if they have a full orchestra backing it should be immence. Sad really, come on Glasto change them to a Sunday! What's up ? Who the Fuck is Weeknd? really for a closing Sunday night headliner, really?

Just watched the BBC Four documentary, I thought I knew Nile's work but f'me he's done a load more than I could have ever imagined! It's going to be utterly superb. I am saving the documentary for posterity, because one day someone will say "never heard of Chic" and they will get a copy of the show and be forced to watch it, then they'll know.

If you check out Youtube for recent live Chic gigs, it's more a back catalogue of Nile Rodgers songs, many of which he wrote/produced for other artists. I think they play 6 to 8 or so Chic songs and the rest are stuff like: -

Let's Dance - Bowie

Notorious - Duran Duran

Like a Virgin - Madonna

We Are Family - Sister Sledge. All of which are his.

If you know the Chic singles, that's all you really need know.

Saw him and his band at Rockness last year, and it was one of the most remarkable live performances I've seen.

He opened to a welcoming but largely bewildered crowd.

"We're not a covers band... These are all maa sawngs."

As the hour or so unfolded, total delight spread across a previously immobile main stage afternoon crowd. Hit after hit after hit. Eyes widened as it slowly dawned just how immense his back catalog is. And it's no lazy retrospective either. His band are incredible. Tight isn't the word. It's a laser-like precision, as if they've just wandered out of a recording studio 30 years ago.

The earlier prediction of set-of-the-festival is a distinct possibility.

Yeah definitely this, after watching that concert someone posted on here it looks like we'll just be getting hit after hit after hit. I was watching that concert thinking "Surely he doesn't have any more well known songs after that one" but out came another belter, it doesn't get any better than that.

Also getting into Chic has also made me get into other Disco bands, for those of you that haven't check out Dimitri From Paris on Spotify, his underground Disco compilations are pukka, I highly recommend the Cocktail Disco compilation and the Get Down With The Philly Sound one too, it can get a bit repetitive at times, but by golly the grooves are just solid. Listen to Starflight by The Band That Fell From Earth, 17 minutes, 3 breakdowns, it doesn't get much better than that in terms of production and musicianship.
