First festival so don't shoot me, but what should I be looking for, when buying waterproofs, (yes I know it won't rain ), will basic pack a mac trousers do ? I'm so excited, it's a belated

honeymoon for us, and my parents are coming up to babysit, so I'm child free as well

I used to take waterproof trousers but to be honest if it's wet and muddy they are a pain as the mud sprays up the sides. Better off with shorts or tights/skirt and wellies and a longish poncho to go over a waterproof jacket.

Cheap waterproof trousers will make your legs sweat a lot, not pleasent when you can't have a shower later. Unless you want to buy expensive breathable ones I'd go for shorts/skirt. I go for a decent quality jacket and then bare legs or tights/leggings which will dry quickly. Ponchos are handy as the water will rund off to the ground rather than dripping off your jacket down your legs.

Hi, this is my very first Glastonbury, in fact very first festival! I'm very excited. Anyway, I've bought this tent: http://www.blacks.co.uk/equipment/107806-eurohike-avon-3-man-tent-red.html - it arrived yesterday and I've had a little look at it today. As I've not been been camping since I was about 8, it didn't dawn on me when I bought the tent that I would need a hammer to hammer the pegs in (d'oh!).

The hammer looks a bit flimsy to me, but then I don't know much about these things. Sorry, I'm aware that I'm a total newbie but I'm desperate to do it properly! Thank you for reading.

You will 100% need a hammer because the ground will be rock hard like a road from all the blazing sunshine we will be having from now up until the festival. If you don't want to spend £10 on that kit though I have a rubber mallet which I got from poundland which did the trick. And is probably not as heavy and as bulky as that.

I wouldn't bother personally - most people use their hands to place the pegs then stamp on them to get them all the way into the ground. If you really do encounter difficulties then it's easy enough to either borrow a hammer or improvise some other way.

That risks bent tent pegs though. I've got the poundland mallet and it does the job just fine.

The principle is fine although the technique is dodgy.

Push in pegs at 45 degrees, and then place the sole of you boot on the peg. Then use the force of both hands to lever your foot downwards. If you hit a stone, re-angle or replace the peg. Works every time unless the ground is like rock, in which case the standard pegs will bend like rubber whatever you do. I always take a few rock pegs, but I've never had to use them yet.

Just use a peg to pull out pegs extra guy ropes are normally in the tent bag already

I have one with a wooden handed and my postcode written on the handle.... Mallets do tend to walk if your not careful.....

My advice for camping chairs is not to buy the cheapest one you can find. It will invariably fall apart within a few minutes of use. Get a semi decent one from MIllets. It will last you much longer.
