The camping essentials - I've found a bargain which you all need to know about thread...

Well I only asked as I have never bought a tent before so JUST asked for suggestions

http://www.blacks.co.uk/equipment/043163-coleman-tasman-2-man-tunnel-tent-green.html I was looking at this one but it has mixed reviews.. apparently the poles often snap?

Page not found.

And after reading those reviews I would.... not buy that tent.

Move on to next tent, check reviews, repeat.

At a real push you could read a few pages of this thread. If you really want to go the whole hog and work up a sweat scroll to the search box at the top, type in "best tent" (with quotations so it knows you want to search for the whole phrase) and press enter.

I'll get a glass of squash for you in case you're tired afterwards - I hope now i've explained just how little effort it would have taken for you to get miles past your first question on your own you can understand why I'm joking about whether you pick your own clothes to wear. Always happy to help people, but first of all to teach them to help themselves

I'm just surprised you're getting that worked up at your computer screen, just asked for suggestions, didn't demand it. Chill out.

In all honesty, if you've never bought a tent before I would very strongly suggest visiting a camping store before purchasing anything, even if you do end up getting it online. Not all tents are created equal, and there's no substitute for seeing for yourself. How much floor or storage space do you need? How big a porch? How much headroom? You probably won't know the answers to that until you've been inside a couple of different models.

Decathlon will have a really good selection on display at this time of the year and friendly staff who will show you how they go up/down. If I need a new tent or other camping gear, they're the first (and often only) place I look. The vast bulk of what they sell is own-brand stuff, and for the most part tends to be very good quality at below average prices.

If Decathlon don't have a branch local to you, Go Outdoors usually have a decent number of tents on display although at my local branch at least they're not always in great condition and some of what they sell is junk.

If you can't get to either of those, then take a look at local shops, you may not be able to see as wide a range, but you'll be able to get a feel for what's out there.

From the power bar thread:

Just went and picked up one in store and it was £14.99, I double double checked and they said it would be elidgable for the on-site swap.

£15 isn't even that ridiculous for a branded battery with a reasonable warranty.

Looks like she was talking shit.

Never bought a tent before, but going to three festivals this year ( glastonbury being my first ever) I've done day tickets for festivals, but never camped before.

So I'd like to invest in a decent one that should survive all 3, and hopefully beyond! Any suggestions? considering it would be a tent for one person too

have a look on some camping websites like

http://www.campingworld.co.uk/?PartnerID=1682&gclid=CO3M-PeOgb4CFbMftAodGG0ASQ

http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/

see what tents you like the look of and seach them on ukcampsite to get reviews

i also like to search them on youtube as sometimes you get video tours of the tents and instructiosn how to put it up (and take it down for pop ups)

i love a bit of tent porn

Bit of a knob.

hey sorry I spend many of my days trying to get folk to put some effort into their so called careers, I have limited patience for people who expect others to do all the work for them. I save my charity for those who need it, not those who fancy a lie-in

Plenty of folk in genuine need. Maybe shouldn't have been such a hard ass - probably had to speak to the MD or summat

I got a belter of a Tresspass tent 'Cruach' is the model perfect for festivals, single skinned and sealed/waterproof. Got it on ebay from a seller called 'Grasshopper' I think it was, decent delivery as well and has had great reviews. I think it was only about £27...worth a shot I reckon!

Honestly? I think you got done. Shop around and you can get a serviceable double skinned tent for less. Millets are doing one for 25 quid at the moment (Eurohike Tamar) which looks to be an updated version of the tent that I used and had no issues with during the monsoon in 2005.

If you've got an iphone (rubbish battery included) which you want to take to Glastonbury and your idea of hell is standing in the queue for the charge tent -mine certainly is - then I can recommend this to you:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/13000mAh-Portable-External-smartphones-lightning/dp/B00BQ5KHJW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1399370659&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+charger

I've had chargers before which were dangerous(!) or gave you a couple of hours extra but this really does work: I've been charging my iphone, and using it as normal, since last Wednesday and it still has some juice left in it: so certainly will see me through the five days and nights.

It's not cheap but I will use it in other situations so I think it was worth it.

I'm sure someone posted a link to this, or a similar device, a few pages back so thanks whoever you are.

That's all.
