Legendary moments at Reading/Leeds

What are the legendary moments at Reading/Leeds? Good or bad, amongst us festival goers?

Examples: Caleb Folan slagging Reading at Leeds 09; Arctics in the tent in 05; 50 Cent being bottled?

Curious to see what all you old timers think!

I've only been to 06, 09 and 10, so can only comment on those and what I've heard!

Didn't see it, but Guns and Roses trying to play on after the sound was cut...?

Possibilities since I've been going:

  • Weezer's performance in 2010
  • Green Day's secret set
  • 'Fuck the Kings of Leon' at every Billy Talent set since 2009
  • Dave Grohl's speech about how awesome Reading is :D

Power cut in the FR stage during The Horrors' headline set at Leeds 2011.

Right in the middle of Still Life too. Some people carry on singing the chorus. The band encourage everyone to join in amid much activity, as efforts are made to get things going again.

5 minutes later everything comes back on to wild cheers, the place is still full, and they finish their set.

"You are the best crowd we have had for a long long time."

What a moment.

At Reading in 2007 after SM in red camp there was a massive crew of the angry mob that was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life saying 'down with the pole' which my dad replied 'they'll give up in a minute' ten minutes later the pole was halfway down and 1 man came tried to get people away, then the tasers came.... May be immuture but one of the best memories in my entire life with my dad and at a festival, madigical

RATM turning up in orange jump suits '08.

The whole crowd signing along to Stand Up after The Prodigy had finished in '09.

Anyone who falls in Henry's Gate river.

Certain girl whose name got thrown around a lot on here that I've forgotten but everyone else will remember.

That Leeds girl who fell down a bog.

Weezer in '10 was the stuff that legends are made of. The guitarist from BMTH climbing to the top of the stage with no harness or anything in '11 was also pretty cool/stupid!

And the number one legendary moment, for me, was when Blink came on with Dumpweed in 2010, it was the best moment of the best day of my life. I'll never, ever forget it :)

Dropkick Murphys in 2008, when there was a plane flying above the crowd advertising an upcoming Slipknot tour, and the singer said "Some people have a lot of nerve, cancelling their appearance at a festival and then advertising their gigs to fans who had already paid to come here." Ouch!

Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007 has some significance, because it was their last ever performance with John Frusciante.

The Prodigy in 2009 seems to have gone down in folklore, with some people claiming that it was the biggest crowd they'd ever seen at Leeds.

I was there at the Prodigy gig (in Leeds). It was certainly the craziest I've been in and needless to say they blew the Arctics off the stage.

How can people tell the size of the crowd? Do they stand on top of the burger vans or something?! Haha.

To be fair, it wouldn't surprise me if they did draw one of the biggest crowds ever at Leeds, I was stood pretty near the back and it was quite rammed where I was. Literally everyone I spoke to that day was off to see The Prodigy, the whole day seemed like a build-up to their performance.

Arctics were abysmal that night. It wasn't a headliner worthy performance. But then the only headliner that year who wasn't utter shite were Radiohead, who put on one of the best festival sets I'd ever seen.
