AWD more positive, although still grasping a straws today

"Ian Fergusson, the local forecaster for the West Country including Glastonbury is now doing snippet forecasts for the run up to the festival. His first thoughts are below;

#GLASTONBURY early indications suggestive of showery/cool/breezy start to festival week; hints of more settled for weekend but uncertain... "

It's evil this weather watching. Over the years it has become an obsession of the most torturing endeavours... The thing is it WILL change from good to bad about 3 or 4 times before this time next week and then even with a few days to go it won't be nailed on either way. I've had 10 years of this trust me... therefore I will keep the faith that surely, surely this is our time once again...

Here are some non-Jackone weather sources for comparison...

Metcheck are forecasting 1.3mm on the monday, 1.1mm on the tuesday, 0.6mm on the wednesday, 1.3mm on the thursday, 1mm on the friday, 0.3mm on the saturday, 1.2mm on the sunday.

Which would mean light showers throughout, with a couple of dry days. So maybe something like 2008.

Accuweather are forecasting 2mm on the monday, 11mm on the tuesday, 0mm on the wednesday, 1mm on the thursday, 5mm on the friday, 2mm on the saturday, 0mm on the sunday.

This would mean dry days and wet days. So I guess more like 2011/2004.

Netweather say there will be rain on monday, rain on tuesday, rain on wednesday, rain on thursday, rain on friday, rain on saturday, rain on sunday.

Because they don't predict how much rain, there's no indication whether this means 2007-like or 2008-like.

The BBC still have no idea by the sounds of it.

The Met Office say drier and wetter spells.

The Weather Channel say that there is a 10% chain of rain on monday, 10% on tuesday - no forecasts after that yet.

Weather Online say there will be light showers.

Conclusion: At this stage looking mixed - at best like 2008, at worst 2011.

I'll keep doing these summaries every day to save everyone from scrawling around different sites.

06z GFS runs look better than the mudbath 00z runs, but still very unsettled. But again, the operational run is a huge outlier in terms of rainfall, with some of the other runs looking very nice indeed!

As Jackone said, models seem to be next to useless at the moment!

Can't help but get a bit depressed about this.

It's not so much me, I can enjoy Glasto in any weather. Just worried about my GF at her first Glasto. I'm not sure how she'll cope.

2007. Mmm. Sat with Greenfairy, Paul and a few others on Wed afternoon. It was very sunny and warm and let to my imbibing GF's legendary absinthe. If I recall some pics were taken of the lovely blue sky and little fluffy white clouds. Perhaps someone from that time still has them. Comments of "Rain at glastonbury? don't be silly, here's the photographic proof."

After stumbling away from what I thought was a highly productive meeting at the cider bus, I slipped in my flip flops into the only muddy puddle in an otherwise dusty track and got very muddy. I thought that this was somewhere near the underground piano bar, but have since decided that that place is actually a state of mind.

I wasn't the last to get mudded.

The rain must have arrived sometime on Thursday morning early. By 8am the place was a swamp. Also memorable - I do not recall seeing much in the way of sun the whole weekend.

The forecast was simply for rain.

2007 it rained, rained, rained and then rained some more. 1/2 my lot bailed on friday, some more saturday. I refused to go home. But it was bloody mindedness. I was in Kidney Mead and I have to dig my tent out cause the mud coming down the hill had accumulated up the side. I remember waking up the path by the side and it was 1/2 a inch deep river of water monday. Truly terrible.

It's going to be fine! We've had on and off rain here over the last few days but the ground is still completely bone dry.

Last year we had weeks of steady rain and damp before the festival, remember how wet and muddy it looked on those worthy FM videos?

Even if we get the odd bit of rain over the festival, it's almost definitely not going to be a mudbath/repeat of 2011 going by the general consensus of forecasts. Still a while before we can be moderately sure of any forecast anyway.

Knew beforehand. We knew a while before 2010 that it would be hot, but only a few days before that it probably wouldn't rain at all. I can't remember 2007 very well but I think a mudbath was predicted at least a couple of weeks beforehand.
