Weather

Don't know why, maybe it's getting older or whatever, but last year was my least favourite weather wise since I started going. It just really pissed me off. Seemed to be cold and wet and horrible for about a week before the festival and for the first few days. I couldn't walk in Shangri La, kept losing my shoes, and eventually my socks too. Exploring the alleyways was next to impossible, I stacked it really badly on the path from the other stage up to the railway line, losing £8 of dinner in the process and covering my last remaining clean clothes in shite. I just feel really battered by it all. 1998 was far, far worse, but it was my first one, so it was OK. Don't remember any problems at all in 2004. 2005 was just a brief freak storm, and it didn't flood where we were in Oxlyers. 2007 was a bit of a bummer if I remember correctly, but last year was the only time when it felt like the weather had got the better of me. Here's to warmer climes this year :)

I think 2011 is an anomaly. The amount of rain that fell during the actual festival wasn't too bad. It was the state of the ground prior to us all getting there and then the ease with which it churned up that caused the issues.

Walking around was such hard work as the mud was so cloying and sticky, I nearly lost my welly so many times.

We are already ahead this year in that so far the ground is solid.

I personally rely on a browse of this thread, the bbc, metcheck and most importantly of all the met office visible satellite imagery, which really allows you to get a feel for the weather systems passing above us.

I am extremely confident at this point.

I've just seen the local forecast. It looks like rain tomorrow, Friday and over the weekend but not as bad as originally thought as there will be some sunny spells in between and that combined with the wind should help to dry things out. They then said the weather should pick up again going into next week! So far the BBC forecast is looking good from Monday onwards, up until Friday at least, but I am sure it will all change by the weekend...

Gavin Partridge forecast seems a little at odds with JackOne, but I suppose it's all in the interpretation and which model(s) you go with. We're getting close, so far the site is in good nick, if the forecasts go the JackOne way, the site should remain in good condition until gates open. Hope building of a largely dry start to the festival, with decent ground conditions, no tropical deluges for the first few days at least.
