I'm very grateful to those of you who know more than me for explaining whats going on; and although I'm lurking and not posting I must have checked this thread every hour at least for the past week or two.

But can anyone explain to me why the word 'unsettled' is used as a euphemism for rain? It just seems such a weedy phrase - a bit like the way the doctor says 'you might feel a bit of discomfort' before inflicting great pain.

'Unsettled' is the way that I've been nervously checking every weather forecast that the internet can provide at least twice while I've been writing this post...

I have a nice image in my head.... Blowers going "Would you look at that, a man dressed as a giraffe being led around by a policeman in fairy wings.. That reminds me of one time out in the Carribean, several of us were out late one night.... Anyway, here comes Jagger, he's in, sings."

I was scoffing at the laziness of it more than anything. It was literally a two line report under a photo which included the word "washout". I don't think whoever wrote it has actually been looking at any of the current forecasts, as none of them are currently predicting a washout.
