Jackone looking for some advice as to when we all want the final forecast to be posted.

Glastonbury Wed 26 to Sun 30 June 2013 - Page 7 - Weather Discussion and Chat http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/76531-glastonbury-wed-26-to-sun-30-june-2013/page-7

'When are most people heading off to site, and as such what day would you want the final pre event forecast to be done, Monday or Tuesday?'

So if the predicted good weather holds, is it a victory for science or faith?

incidently earlier this week, we were predicted heavy rain for today. Even this morning they predicted cloud and 14 degrees. In actual fact it's sunny, hot and blue skies!

This might be a stupid question, but are you just as likely to get sun burn on a 20 degrees sunny day at glastonbury as you are on a 30 degrees sunny day at glastonbury? Or is temperature based on air temp rather than sun strength?

I would say that you are more likely to get burnt when it is cooler as it is much easier to underestimate the suns strength and forget the sunscreen. Just think how easy it is to get burnt whilst skiing.

My view is that air temperature will depend on very broad spread factors, and be significantly influenced by such as prevailing winds - where is the air coming from? somewhere hot/warm?

But, what browns/burns you is not the temperature but the strength of the sun's rays hitting your skin, and that depends upon the cloud cover / amount of haze.

So, cool, warm or hot, if it's clear you'll need to take care.

at this time of year - the peak time for sun strength - even with light cloud cover, skin burn is perfectly possible if not very likely ... for those who aren't usually in the sun much and/or are red haired and light skinned and aren't topped up with sun cream and/or a hat. therefore, as the actress said to the bishop, "some protection is wise..."

It has worked for me in years gone by. The only year I took any wet weather gear was 2011, because it was clear it was going to be needed. This year I am confident that if we do get a shower here and there it would be a welcome cool down, or sheltering in a tent/bar at the worst.

even the beeb and the met office are now swinging towards a not bad week next week, especially in the south. and glastonbury, of course, is in the south :-). let's worry about the sat and sun of the fest another day.
