What's in a (festival) name ?

Every year I get asked by non festival types which festivals I am going to or have been to. As I rattle off the names I detect a look of disbelief on the questioners face, then I realise I do sound faintly ridiculous.....Shambala, One Love, Womad, Beautiful Days, Bestival and particularly when we used to go to Endorse-it-in-Dorset.

Which got us thinking about names of festivals and how good/bad or just plain ridiculous they are.

For instance there are some lovely romantic names....2000 Trees, Blissfields and One Love.

Daft names.....said Endorse-it-in-Dorset, sorry Flounder :D. Bloody Bearded Theory

Horrible names....Leeds, Bestival, Chagstock for instance. Actually anything ending in stock is horrible as is anything ending in fest......Feststock/stockfest. Hmmmm I can see it now.

There's a Brownstock which just makes me think of gravy....or worse.

So what are what are good names or naf names for festivals and which do you particularly like or dislike?

I often see people on the Rockness forum claiming it is a 'rock' festival because of the name. Find that odd that people think names should be taken literally, even Glastonbury is technically incorrect as it's Pilton! haha

I hate overly corporate ones like V and TITP, absolutely no thought just pure money making.

Yeah, we were talking about how sometimes the name doesn't tell you anything about the festival and sometimes it does. One Love for instance, could it be anything but a reggae festival ?

We mentioned Rockness as I have to admit I thought along the same lines as the Rockness forumites. :D
