Best Download/Donnington moments/memories

Saw this in the Reading/Leeds forum and thought it might be a good idea to do one for Download. For me it was watching Jesse perform with Killswitch something I didn't think I'd have chance to do (didn't get into them until Howard arrived). It was horrible weather all weekend but when Killswitch came out the sun was shining slowly settling in the background and that horrible mud was forgotten about for a hour. Brilliant!

2010 sitting in the sun before the stage opened on Fri. Getting pished, listening to awesome choons, getting well excited and watching Terry Fuckwit camper of the year spend 4 hours trying to figure out how to put up his camper van awning. Dream On Aerosmith. Sabbath because I could feel every note of Iommi's guitar going through me. It was wikid awsums.

Last year I got totally mashed on the first night, spent an hour searching the wrong field for my tent.

Finally found my way back, picnic chair erected, stella can cracked, some good music coming from the right, and the lovely smell of green drifting over from the left.

It was a 'shoot-me-now' moment

Going back to campervan field one year on the Fri cos a pal was ill. We decided to blag our way back to the arena the short way to the side of main. Made it most of the way before being denied at the last check point. The guy was not letting us in under any circumstances I even tried the Jedi mind trick on him which had other people around falling over but he sent us away. We decided to go cross country rather than all the way back. It was an adventure that was probably quicker but we got a bit "nettled". When we tried to get in at the gate by 2nd they said "ah we've heard about you" and sent us round to the main entrance.Twats.

Saxon frontman shouting "good evening manchester", telling us they had time for 1 more song about 10 times, and then telling us he'd dropped a pound "just there" whilst watching AC/DC the night before completely unaware he was on a different stage. The he told us that it was "amazing" that an aeroplane took off when he was singing 747 Strangers in the night, obviously unaware that one takes off every 5 mins or so! I dunno what he's been on over the years but I want several pints of it :)

For me it has to be the first time I went in 2007, it was the first major festival I'd been to & I was in ore of the place, the people & everything about it. Plus the weather was perfect.

Band wise: the atmosphere in the tent for Mötley Crüe 2007 was amazing. Slipknot 2009 was a special moment (I'm not a massive fan, but something just stood out about that performance) & RATM 2010 was amazing.

I've only been once to Donnington when it was the good old days of Monsters of Rock. The whole day (back in '92) was awesome (apart from the rain showers). Seeing Slayer and thinking these mother fudgers can play!, Seb Bach running onto a wet stage, and promptly going arse over tit to a huge roar from the crowd and the lasting memory of being on the bank at the end of the night watching Maiden rip through their set in spectacular fashion, the crowd singing along, bouncing, punching the air in unison and the odd free kerrang single whizzing up in the air (who's bright idea was it to give drunken metal/rock fans vinyl frisbees), along with the containers of 'questionable liquids' soaring up in the air :)
