I saw chase and status at werchter last year and no twattish behaviour, perhaps it's just the Leeds crowd or I'm used to dicks more.

I'd say it's more the British crowd myself, same seemed to occur at Reading, then there were those stabbings a while back at SHM, and the crowd at Avicii looked like the most dire gathering in existence! It just seems that dance music in the UK seems to attract the wrong sort, quite often. Not all the time, but it seems to be pretty regular

In all fairness, lucky said this before me and I've maintained it all the time, check my posts. See how often they play R&L compared to V and T

Thanks for the credit fella.

Like i've said elsewhere, The Prodigy fit V very well and I can totally see them getting the mainstage headline gig. I also said Dizzee would work very well as a sub.

What you need to remember about The Prodigy is they choose their shows very carefully, it was a stroke of genius them doing the MK Bowl and then just one UK fest the past two years and headlining them, put them in demand and maintaining their status as a mainstage headliner. Countless arena tours selling out and the success of the last album, they need to carry the momentum over and they can headline V and TITP in 2014 on the coat tails of the new album and then Reading in 2015 whilst they'll still be in demand.

The thing with The Prodigy is whilst some acts may play Download and Reading and think they're too cool for V or whatever, Chelms V is their hometown show festival, so its always going to be special to them and they'll always want to do it.

I do think the thing to also remember is though that V's 2nd stage is pretty big and gives them that added extra light that a sub space doesn't. I generally think this is a reason for doing this slot for a fair few years now.

I think they could do it comfortable, if they decide to announce no like arena shows shows before next years dates but I think that is likely. But there are some bands which I stick to for not headlining and I'll just about stick there at the minute. I guess one reason is that if they in the next two years do the Bestival and IOW head spots, one at least has been accompanied with a R&L sub slot at the same time and I kinda think if they can do that then they can still do 2nd at T and V. But all that said, a new album may be a game changer and if C&S can headline Reading within a couple of years then your points sticks well.

You're point about the last two years is spot on. If you weren't really a heavier music fan, you'd have maybe chosen not to see them at Download, likewise if you just liked what The Prodigy bring to a indier fest like R&L you'd have probably steered away from Creamfields this year due to the extra dance element you may not be bothered with. Their little dates at Manchester and London near Xmas also guarantee almost that only people living there can go.

Agree with everything that's been said on here about The Prodigy. It's easily forgotten that they are probably the most pioneering musical act of the last quarter century - when you listen back to even the Experience album the influences you Heaton modern dance music are everywhere.... I've been calling for them to headline for years + they put on an amazing live performance.......

Prodigy certainly showed arctic monkeys up at leeds a few years ago.

the BBC intro stage opener probably showed arctics up in 09

I don't know what it is about Arctics because I like them but live I just find them dull.

It might be different now Alex appears to be channelling Elvis.

they're a bit less dull now, but alex is now up there with the biggest w*nkers in music. but they are still pretty lackluster, they're missing something in their performances, something to make them not so shit

I was thinking very similar to this. It was a very poor headline set but glasto this year was a much different show.

there is only certain people the prodigy could sub too, i think that is why as well they always at v and t play the same position pretty much but closing the stage.

their 96 and 98 reading shows were a bit different as one was before a heavier band which is going to work fine really and the other was to a hip hop group. I think there are few indie style bands that The Prodigy could head to.

Their last show before 09 was a headline slot so not problems there.

Prodigy played after Rage at Reading in 96.

I think if The Prodigy headlined I would like to see a reformed Pendulum play under them. Is that realistic or not?

possible, but unlikely if Prodigy were to headline next year, there's gonna be a new Pendulum album next year but appears there are no plans to start playing live again as Pendulum from it

Would pendulum maybe want to headline a second stage somewhere instead of sub? If they have a new album in the works I don't see why they wouldn't want to cash in and do a fest or two

Rob and Gareth are releasing another Knife Party album beforehand too, so they'll want to tour that first before they even contemplate touring a new Pendulum album.

From Rob's twitter-

We're probably going to release another Pendulum album some time next year.
There will be a KP album before that also. Probably should have mentioned that first.
(that doesn't necessarily mean the band will be playing live again - just in case any EDM blogs were in the middle of calling me a hypocrit)

Thing is, they'll get offered a damn site more to play as Pendulum than Knife Party, so I reckon they'll reform for live shows as soon as the offers come rolling in. I think they'll both be active at some point next year.

I think it would make more sense to leave Pendulum out of the festival circuit next year, and just do one more year of KP. Especially if KP's album is getting released first in the year, suggests Pendulum's album might have a later release date. Although they could do some shows pre new album material, and then 2015 shows post new material.
