jumbomcnutt
This strikes me as one of those "visual re-assurances" like the drug amnesty bins - why go all the way to gates at the festivals just to dump any gear at the last minute? Its there to re-assure the locals, the authorities etc that measures are taken to keep to their licence and abide by the laws. Concern from authorities: Is the glasto organisers encouraging binge drinking? - answer : "No, we have sent out an email to prevent this" Case closed. Move on. ProperTea
First time I've ever been annoyed with Glastonbury. Who has approved this? It's bad enough that they are introducing it in the first place, but to do it TWO WEEKS before the festival starts, with a badly worded, authoritarian email really leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I have friends who have spent significant amounts of money on trollies and alocohol, who aren't going to leave their trollies or spend their time getting pissed and being anti social. It's not even like this is a new decision. I'm staying at Worthy View and we got told about this policy months ago, but I just presumed that was for Worthy View only so was happy to go along with it. Presumably though, this was never Worthy View only and so they have known about it for months but only decided to let people know two weeks before hand. jumbomcnutt
they'll have to show evidence that they are enforcing the contents of the email if that is the case though. "the authorities" arent fools

russycarps
True. & they hand over the contents of the amnesty bins to the police and go - "oh look everyone has seen sense and dumped their stuff" -needless to say the Somerset Police Force's christmas party is legendary ! jumbomcnutt
That gives me an idea for a stall. Bring the bin up to the stone circle on the Saturday night and reverse the flow - lucky dip!
Vacant0
Would anybody else like to make their feelings known on the facebook page? Trying to stop myself from getting into a serious argument with someone on there who I can only assume, is either a complete twat, or actually wrote the email in question.... scaryclaireyfairy
until now reselling, binge drinking etc was all covered by this bit on their website; If you're bringing your own alcohol to the Festival, remember that amounts considered beyond reasonable personal use will be confiscated at the gate
JoBalls
I don't bring more booze than I can carry anyway (mainly because if the wheels break off the trolley or it is too muddy, we would have to lift it) but having the trolley is a comfort thing... I'd rather carry the light stuff in my backpack and push a trolley with the heavy stuff as it stops me getting all hot and sweaty before I've even made it through the gates. Funkyfairy!
I'm tempted to attach a single can of beer to a rollerskate and bring it through the gates.
Glastoboy
I always carry my beer in my rucksack because my wheelbarrow is full of drugs.
dj_tim
Literally bought my booze and a trolley yesterday so I'm pretty annoyed at the timing of this email. Like others have said ill be putting it in a rucksack and just taking it off the trolley to carry through the gates then reattaching once inside. Seems pretty stupid though. LondonTom
O_o bit weird, I normally take in two crates (And spirits in the backpack ), so should be fine just to take it off the trolley and walk in.....but the way it's worded seems odd, why not just specify an amount than all this wheeled malarkey... I am sure it work out fine in the end!
Teddington
What a load of crap. So near to the time as well? Hopeless organisation. Won't affect me as I only take spirits but I can see the issues with delays getting in as people (naturally enough) object.
Rosstitute
surely health and safety chiefs can see the impending nightmare of people breaking their backs carrying cases of beer and falling on their backsides

Ruwise
For most people Glastonbury is an almost week long holiday and if you ask anybody who drinks if they could carry everything they drink along with all their clothes etc the answer would be no. I understand wanting to ensure people are not making money out of things they bring in but some common sense please. Also, you'd probably be able to manage carrying more spirits than beer but it doesn't mean it's better for you. A nonsense policy if you ask me.
