Yawn it always gets back to Liverpool, never has a team aiming for 4th been celebrated so much.

Oh c'mon. Arsenal every year. :P

What doesn't happen tho is similar celebrations around Utd. First they'd have to learn to play with a style that doesn't6 bore the pants of everyone but their own fans.

And talking of Utd, the latest pronouncements by Moyes has him saying "the players have been terrific" (apart from at kicking the ball straight of course :P), and he also believes that Utd are an improved .

How can a club be over 300m in debt make over 100m profit?

I am sure they will be okay of they went 10 years without champions league football, they would cut there cloth accordingly.

Especially as a fair chunk of the high earners will be leaving in the next year or 2, players like vidic/evra/rio/giggs/carrick/RVP/young and maybe Rooney.

yep, I've said as much already. It's the safe option from the financial point of view ... tho of course, not as safe as looks currently with Chumps TV money included.

The big risk comes from investing for glory and not succeeding. That'll need about £200M pumped in the summer just to stand a chance of competing; it would need more to be sure of getting top 4.

Well you would think they would need at least 6 or 7 quality players, that amount will probably leave.

yup, plus a few upgrades needed for ones that'll still be there.

But if we just take the leavers and say that's 7 of them, there's almost no sale value to got from them as a whole (many out of contract, or not worth too much), and it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they'd average out at £20M each as a conservative amount.

So that's £140M that needs spending, minimum. Plus the wages for those, which are probably likely to be greater as a whole than the leaving players are on.

All hypothetical of course. We've yet to find out if the Glazers do have any risk-taking instincts.

I disagree about the sums needed to challenge for the top 4. To me those are the sums needed to be title challengers. Making up 10 points sounds a lot, but when you consider Liverpool have made up 30 odd points in one season it isn't huge. Liverpool hit gold in one transfer window with sturridge and coutinhio but it wasn't 200 million in one year. A couple of good signings could easily make man u contenders if they are the right players. The likes of everton and spurs are contenders with solid but not spectacular squads.
