Wooderson
He was a poor choice from the start, United needed a big name and someone with big balls to follow in the gap left by Ferguson. A Mourinho type character. For me he has gone because of the numbers. Loss of Champions League money, £27.5 million on a squad player and £37 million on a incorrectly used player. Add on poor tactics, unhappy players and mind boggling stupid pre / post match comments. He wasn't going to last much longer was he. I wouldn't trust him with a reported £150 million transfer kitty. Also reported his sacking will only cost them one season salary.
the_hedge
Interesting what Fergie and Bobby Charlton's stance will be on this?
ThomThomDrum
Personally I can't see them spending even close to 150 million in the summer. Couple of recruits from Southampton - but if they break 70 million I'd be shocked.

mrtourette
Why ? His legacy is only stronger from what happened with Moyes...It largely believed his genius is what allowed an ageing and below par team to win the title... and its only backed up with Moyes complete failure... Laughing his bollocks off more like it...

mrtourette
Im the same and feel that Moyes conducted himself - as ever - with calm gravitas despite his shortcomings tactically and experience wise. I do have issues with the "given the squad" comment you make tho Tourette. Think it is belittling of the achievements of your own manager's accomplishments. Moyes had a fine squad at the start of the season. He said it himself. He also spent 70 odd million pounds. Maureen would not have been in this position had he taken over last June. Given the significant improvement in fortunes this season it wasnt *that* surprising to hear the "sacked in the morning" chants from Goodison on Sunday. The contrast in the fortunes of both sides couldnt have been more stark.
mrtourette
Correct for you... Fergie is a manager and not a CEO... He won't carry the can for that in the memory of the fans...
Wooderson
Van Gaal appointment would signal the "normalisation" of management at Old Trafford. i.e. a 3/4 year contract and expectation for a level of tangible immediate success. I don't think he'll get 150 million to spend when it'd a given now that he'll be gone if he doesnt perform - something that until this week Utd fans were doubled up in telling us wasnt going to be the case with their "traditions" etc.
Wooderson
Well we'll have to agree to disagree, compared to previous Man Utd squads I think this one was fairly poor, and their midfield issues have been well-known for two or three years now. Add the fact that their rock-solid defensive partnership has also been on the way out and he had some obvious problems to solve from day one. However yes he spent a lot of money and should have been able to address the issues he had a lot more effectively than he did for £70mil. The likes of Smalling, Jones, Giggs, Cleverly, Nani and Evans just aren't good enough to be the backbone of a team supoposedly challenging for the title and he failed to address that. I have no idea who Maureen is.

Essex_George
Utd should walk the league next season then, Van Gaal as manager and no European football...
Wooderson
Fergies stance should be behind a couch cowering with embarrassment and shame!

mrtourette
Not sure what they hoped to achieve with the timing either. Were they seriously still thinking that Champions League qualification was a possibility before the weekend? I can only think they're trying to limit the damage that he's done to team morale with regards to keeping players in the Summer.
pink_triangle
I genuinely feel sorry for Moyes in all this. He was -never- the right man for the job.
pink_triangle
Hope Utd arent going to make managerial decision based on the wishes of a chronically injury prone 30+ player now.
the_hedge
The point I'm trying to make with Fergie is that he has always believed that a manager should be given time, especially after what happened to him in the early days. Bobby Charlton backed him and they have aways said that stability is the way forward. With United sacking Moyes it goes against everything Fergie believes and it makes him look stupid as he picked Moyes as his successor. We all know Fergie does not like being made to look stupid and his relationship with the board/Glazers could be tested with this decision. mrtourette
They need to recruit and have everything in position for the closed season so the new guy has a chance at building. Sack him last day of the season and you lose time for that. Edited April 22, 2014 by mrtourette

Wooderson
Im not sure anyone could be "the right man for the job". As many have said everyone wanted to be the man after the man who followed Fergie. Admitedly some could have been less worse than others. ThomThomDrum
You never know he might for once come out and hold his hands up and say he was wrong. It takes a bigger man to admit his mistakes etc...
