kaosmark2
Eh? Man Utd's squad is miles better than LFC's. That they ain't performing or have regressed somewhat is irrelevant. Four or five players from LFC's first XI have really come on in the last 6 months or so. Bench is still a mess.
ThomThomDrum
Correct for you... Fergie is a manager and not a CEO... He won't carry the can for that in the memory of the fans...
mrtourette
Given relative lack of experience, level of instability in recent years, squad depth, relative youth of key performers and manager, general sense of improbability regarding current run of wins at this time of the year, I think "plucky" is the perfect description. A cavalier lack of cynicism about their play in the face of considerable odds. Lord Ferg named 6 teams 4 months ago he thought would compete for the trophy. LFC wasnt one of them. Wooderson
Man U have more depth but less quality. Joe Allen and Tom Cleverley are on a comparable level, your CBs are all comparable, your back-up forwards aren't that much worse than Hernandez has been this last 18 months. Lucas has been relegated to a squad player. I'd take Liverpool's typical bench over Man U's.
pink_triangle
Not a chance many people are going to buy that. It might be a lovely narrative that Liverpool have blown away the evil and dull moneybags teams and their foreign owners with their attacking play and team full of young Englishmen, but it's largely bollocks. They've been an underachieving giant, there's nothing plucky about them. It's an impressive achievement, but it's not like they're rallying against the old guard or anything. mrtourette
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The advantage Liverpool have is they can pay 150k a week wages which means they can keep players which everton and spurs cannot. However look at the other leagues and in general there aren't teams outside the top 4 spenders winning league titles.
pink_triangle
Absolutely, I'm not taking away from their achievement, 7th place to 1st is a very rare thing. It's just they weren't your average 7th placed team.
Celery
No surprises with the way we played but I would have taken that before the game for sure. Athletico never seriously threatened. All to play for next week, just a shame about the injuries and suspensions. Wouldn't be surprised to see a semi-reserve team played against 'pool on the weekend Edited April 22, 2014 by pea tear griffin
ThomThomDrum
What a awful game. The "special one" said they would go there and try to win. They very much went there and tried not to loose. Gives football a bad name that sort of crap does. One good potential is Terry and Cech may be questionable for Sunday. Will obviously have to wait for more on that but
Wooderson
Watching that was a fucking insult.

ThomThomDrum
Did you really expect anything different? That was exactly the way to play the game. It's only half time, they won't play that way next week. Oh, and Cech has dislocated his shoulder. No way he'll play on Sunday and Terry highly unlikely too
Celery
No I did not. Because Jose lies at least once in every interview/press conference he gives. But one watches out of interest, and man that was horrid. Beautiful game my arse Edited April 22, 2014 by pea tear griffin
DomDom1984
Chelsea did the right and expected thing. Don't watch Chelsea at this stage of the CL if you don't want to see that.

pink_triangle
That's was one of the dullest champions league games, I have seen in a while. The away goal rule means playing for a 0-0 away from home is a dangerous strategy.Moving back to Moyes, for all the abuse he is getting he has probably only taken 10 million out of the club, maybe time to stop turning a blind eye to Americab owners who have taken 500+million out. ThomThomDrum
So don't grumble then if you knew that's what you'd get. He's under no obligation to entertain. We've hardly got the best attacking team around. Hell, we only played slightly less defensively against PSG and lost by 2 clear goals. Next week will be different. Just read that Athletico attempted 44 crosses! Must have been watching a lot of ManUre this season. I guess it's more effective in Spain

ThomThomDrum
Fair enough Victor! But you shouldn't be so surprised. It was a good tactical performance. Set up for a great second leg now.

Wooderson
Rafa wasn't unlike Jose is his pragmatism on the way to CL finals. He didn't criticise other sides like Maureen however. Anyway - isn't playing like that the reason he got the bullet last time round?
