zahidf
Interesting: 'Jose Mourinho's formula for success as told by Diego Torres, a Spanish journalist turned author. "(1) The game is won by the team who makes fewer errors; (2) Football favours whoever provokes more errors in the opposition; (3) Away from home, instead of trying to be superior to the opposition, it's better to encourage their mistakes; (4) Whoever has the ball is more likely to make a mistake; (5) Whoever renounces possession reduces the possibility of making a mistake; (6) Whoever has the ball has fear; (7) Whoever does not have it is thereby stronger."' eFestivals
Er yeah. So in other words, 3 points in one game are just as important as 3 points in another game. And the theory that "not losing to your closest competitors is the biggest factor" is patently bollocks... yep, they're all three points. Very astute of you. But some points are harder to get than others. That news appears to be new to you.

But it's much what I've been suggesting for the wider context of the league. The league is won by the team who makes the fewest errors - and on the basis that the top teams will make comparable errors against the lesser sides, what puts one of those top teams higher than the others is the mistakes made in the games against each other. If you don't lose to those other teams and everything else is equal, then you finish even at worse, and win the league if you can take more points off them than they take off you. strummer77
This is being madly over analysed for me. Liverpool were a bit flat (star player(s) on a run of bad form too) against one of the best teams in Europe and ultimately lost because of an unforced error. They happen sometimes, these results happen sometimes. I think if Gerrard doesn't slip that probably ends 0-0. Not great but not appalling. But on such fine margins are games won and lost. No complaints. Edited April 28, 2014 by strummer77

eFestivals
I think if Gerrard doesn't slip that probably ends 0-0.Spot on.And then Moaniho prances around (like he's been doing anyway) and says "the winner of the league wasn't better than Chelsea".From any angle, he gets to convince himself that he's the best - and that matters as much as Chelsea winning anything. DomDom1984
The margin of error is mental. One horrendous touch from Gerrard. Credit needs to go to Ba as well for being right on top of it.

DomDom1984
I loved Ba in the interview. "What were you thinking when he slipped?" "I wasn't thinking. That's how I scored." Fair play.

eFestivals
Funny really that the captian of each team can have a "mistake finger" pointed at them if they loose the leagueis that one moment really so devastating to how the season goes? I don't think so.There's a million different what-if's you could apply, and they all have the same impact onto the finishing position. eFestivals
Gerrards slip is the one that is going to be shown for years to comeoh, I won't disagree with that. It'll be the one of the end-pieces of his career DVD.It's one that works as something to play up, but at the end of the day we're all wiser than that. It happens. It can happen to anyone. And to win stuff you've got to be good enough. If you're not, you're not.

WS_Jack_III
That's it, I've had enough. We need change and Ashley obviously isn't gonna sell up. Pardew has lost the players and he looks lost himself. In the last 8 games NUFC have: Scored just 2 goals Conceeded 18 Won 1 game Lost the last 6. Front three runners at the bookies to take over are: Moyes, Bruce and Pulis. God help us!
