The only thing players will respond to is action. Stern words prior to the game won't mean anything when they push the refs and find out that the stern words aren't backed up. They shouldn't need warning prior to the game, they should be punished consistently in line with the rules with clear explanation when it does occur.

I cant see Barcelona selling Fabregas with a possible transfer ban hanging over them in the next transfer window. As for Man Utd missing out on champions league effects their pull to some extent, but i dont think its a given players will choose Arsenal and (particularly) Liverpool over them.

Most of us can't really comment on Pele, it's more what other people say. Only part of me that discounts Pele is he was in a very good team full of stars, the 1970 was perhaps the best international team of all time.

People talk about the barca side being the best club side ever to play football and I am unsure about that. I could make a case of the Juventus side of the mid 90s the best club side I've seen which included Zidane.

it's a combination of things, including how likely a player is to get a game at the clubs offering them a contract.

What we can be certain of tho is that Utd's draw is less than it was. CL footie makes a difference.

I think United will still have a pull for a short time, but they have to do something next season I think. Liverpool and City were both clubs with big ambition who fully believed they could go further, and Man United are a massive club who SHOULD be in the CL and aren't, and thus there's every possibility they'll be there next season.

If they spend two seasons out though, some serious problems will hit them as far as attracting players goes.

I know we say that a lot and I tend to agree, have we any facts though to back it up. I'm trying to think of players joining a team due to champions league football.

For example Toure joining city when they had no champions league football, Suarez stopping when Liverpool didn't have champions league football, Rooney signing a contract when it was obvious united wasn't going to be in it.
