Football 2013-2014

I still fear Lallana is an example of chasing a player because they are available, rather than you need them to make the team better. I worry that it could end up pushing Coutinio out and Liverpool could be worse off and not better.

yep, that concerns me too - tho Rodgers seems to be pretty good at spreading the minutes around the players.

And next season they've got Europe, so it's not like it's an extra player without extra games, and it gives them the decent back-up that the squad is very short of compared to the other top teams.

After another bad display tonight, and the boos from the Wembley crowd, I would say Hodgson needs to drop Wayne Rooney from the starting XI for the world cup, at least the first game or two anyway. The younger players looked so comfortable and unafraid, which is something that should be embraced, especially going into a tournament where there isn't much hope that England will do anything significant at all.

Hart

Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines

Henderson, Gerrard

Sterling, Chamberlain, Lallana

Sturridge

4-2-3-1

There we go.

A couple of random thoughts

1. Does anyone else find this idea strange of teams preparing for world cups by playing teams in the same continent, as if every team in the same continent plays the same style/formation. I would think there are European sides more similar I style to Uruguay than Peru.

2. Why does Adam Lallana keep getting lumped in to the young English category? He is 26 which to me is mid career for a footballer.

Pompey becoming the first league club to use crowd sourcing as a means to fund a capital project.

The aim is to raise enough money for the Academy to have some facilities built at our new training base.

Hereford thrown out of the conference for not paying bills, you wonder how long it will be before football league club share the same fate, because there must be many teams higher up the pyramid who aren't paying their bills either.

it's pretty sure that, to-date, all "football bills" by all league clubs in financial trouble have been paid ... somehow footie manages to have a status in law that's not allowed to other businesses, where football has the first claim on football's money. In cases outside of football, claims on the money are equal by all creditors.

I go up to Hereford for matches now and then, it's a good ground to go to as an away fan I reckon, so it'll be a shame to lose that. I'm not sure there's much comeback from not having a league to play in. :(

I feel for Hereford, always enjoyed away trips o Edgar Street. It sounds like they've been given every chance with the deadline being extended, to get it sorted.

I hope they come back as a club at some level but without a league to play in that seems a way off and can see the ground being swallowed up for redevelopment if they fail

The same thing happened to Chester and they moved back up to the same level with little trouble. Im not sure how Darlington are managing, but I think most sides with a decent fnabase should be able to progress to conference level failry quickly, but then things start to get a bit tougher.

it occurred to me while I was writing my first post that similar had happened the beneficiaries of Hereford's demise.

What league did Chester start back in? They seemed to have done that pretty quick (Mark Wright was manager when they died, wasn't he?). It took Aldershot about 13 years to get to the Conference after starting again at 'the bottom'.
