Didn't he time his last operation to coincide with international friendlies? That's not to say I blame him he prioritized what he thought were the most important games. It is difficult to assess international pull outs as its very subjective what is genuine and what isn't. I would also say that Gerrards influence at Liverpool means he is probably under less pressure to pull out of games by his manager, than someone without that power base at his club.

That's not to say Gerrard isn't committed or professional, I think nearly (rooney was a bit questionable) all the England players went into the last world cup and euros giving their best, they failed because of an inability to keep hold of a football rather than commitment to the cause.

Going back to Carragher, while I disagree with a lot that he says, he has a right to have his opinion. However he has always come across as a decent bloke, so I think it reflects poorly on him taking a pay cheque from that racist, homophobic excuse of a newpaper the mail. Surely he is rich enough he could have taken a bit less money to write for a less hateful newspaper. Then again they do say all top level footballers vote tory!

Labour supporters are actually twice as likely to read the Daily Mail over say the Guardian.

In other news radio 5 this morning were talking about this story http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/red-bull-looking-buy-english-2366075 about Red Bull looking to buy an English premiership club. Ian Ridley speculated it could be Everton due to Rebull sporting director Gerard Houlliers close links to Bill Kenwright... Still won't believe Bill will sell up though.

Well of course they are, I think your lucky if one man and his dog buys the guardian these days. I read the odd article online but would only consider buying it if I had a long train/plane journey. However I do often read things I am interested in online. The sports coverage of the guardian is first class in my opinion, the times and telegraph is also very good, despite the facts the front pages are not to my political persuasion. The sports coverage in the sun and mail is absolute drivel in my opinion, while the mirror isn't much better.

As a neutral I would be against getting rid of seeding, I like to see the best teams play in the big tournaments, even if it does discriminate against crap teams like Wales! I would get rid of seedings for the play offs though, to me this is a scandalous manipulation of the qualifying. Clubs have already been seeded and therefore if they all finish runner ups, they should be treated as equals in an open draw.
