If he isn't careful, Young is going to have some new retrospective punishment rule named after him. The Cruyff turn. The Bosman transfer. The Young suspension. Sounds like a film.

Good results for both Manchester teams last night

eh?

While it's not (currently, anyway) a damaging result for Utd, it's still a pretty dreadful result. That was a team they should have beaten and who were there for the taking.

No wonder you're thinking that Utd are guaranteed top 4, if you can put a "good result" gloss on last night.

I wouldn't say it's a good result, but it's certainly not a dreadful one. A loss would suddenly have brought Sociedad back in the mix to qualify, while by drawing they've ensured it's 3 into 2. Man U need 2 points to secure qualification now, with a home game against the 3rd place team who are traditionally a lot stronger at home. 2 draws or 1 win gets them qualified, and 1 win might even be enough for top place.

Certainly a respectable result, doesn't cause them any problems. They can't see it as 2 points dropped.

For Utd's progression in the group it's good, but that's where the good ends.

Utd put out a second string side last night because they felt that second string side was good enough to win it. It wasn't.

So that group of players - which ended up being most of them in the end (if not all at the same time) - failed to meet their managers expectations. And while that happens a fair amount, it's never a good thing.

I always said that City would be fine in europe this year, easier group as one reason, the other being Pelligrini is tactically very astute when it comes to Europe, i think he's been to to 2 semi finals with Villarreal and Madrid and just short with my team, Málaga, due to a very dodgy decision from a Scottish Referee!

But winning the CL shouldn't be the MAIN aim for City this year, it's just to win games, and i realise that sounds very vague, and absolutely stupid, but coefficients are everything in this competition! When is the last time Porto did anything in CL? Or Benfica? Yet because they've had a decent Europa League Run they're in Pot one, the likes of CSKA Moscow, and Marseille? for example they're a 'harder' team than the likes of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund apparently, but being regulars in Europe helps the coefficient, and despite being utterly shit, in every CL Campaign they've had so far, City are nearly in the second tier of teams, so going as far as they can this year, could see them easily shift into the second pot, and give them easier targets to win the group every time... it makes a difference when teams like Atletico, Juventus and PSG are replaced by the likes of Ajax, Olympiacos and Basel, in the kindest possible way...

So even if they don;t have a chance of winning it, the further they go, the easier it'll get in future seasons!

Mertesacker has been so imperious tonight. He's been in excellent form for months but that tackle on Reus a couple of minutes ago was just fantastic. Saw a stat earlier this week that he's only committed 4 fouls all season! Absolute quality.

Shame that's the main story of the game. Dortmund and Arsenal pretty much cancelling each other out at the moment.

There's an argument for shipping him out, fining him, never playing him again, suspending him for a few weeks (and this would be to Manure's advantage as they wouldn't be playing him).

If I got reprimanded at work (publicly or not) and then did the exact same thing again, disciplinary procedures would be started.

But there's diving and there's diving. And also he's now been slated by two of his own managers. Like someone else said earlier, even Suarez has reigned it in in the Premiership.

IMO there's also a difference between making the most of contact and diving when there's none at all. (Neither of which I like, but the former seems to be accepted nowadays).

And maybe if ALL clubs did it, then there would be players left because they'd have to stop doing it.

I have more of a problem with leg breakers/career ending tackles than cheats to be honest.

It's disgusting how dossena and reither will only get 3 match bans.

Going vack to diving neymar and lewandowski have dived tonight, sell them?

Every game you see now diving will take place, I think the horse has bolted im afraid.
