Football 2013-2014

The horse has bolted but it could be reigned back in. Managers just need to brief their players that they won't accept it when they're bought. Neymar and Lewandowski have dived tonight because they know the club want it, even if they won't admit it. If England win the World Cup final (yes, I know) with an Ashley Young dive to win a penalty I certainly won't celebrate it. And if the FA didn't come out and publicly condemn it, I'd never watch England again.

And I'm sure that has the FA trembling in their boots :)

I understand how this now makes me look like a hypocrite - that's why I wasn't nailing my colours to the mast. But you asked and I couldn't lie.

I stand by it though. Liverpool haven't scored a goal this season (that I can think of) through a dive. And if we did, no I wouldn't celebrate. I'd shake my head in disgust. That doesn't change much.

Man Utd should get rid of Young because he is crap, not because he is a diver. Theres no way such a corporate club will release a player (worth 10 million maybe?) just to prove a point. I sometimes wonder if he is in the team purely to get penalties, as I don't see any other great attributes.

Another point are Mertersacker and Koscielny the best centre back pairing in the premiership at present?

Man Utd on Sunday is going to be an interesting game. While Arsenal have been impressive beating spurs and Liverpool, both games were at home and both are teams arsenal are used to beating and finishing above. Some are calling Arsenal favourites for the game, but I think they would be very happy with a point.

Can't really argue with that when you put it like that.

Also a very valid point.

My love for football wains every season due to the diving etc and if this carries on I can see me watching hardly any top level football in a few years time. The matches I saw at the women's Olympics brought this home to me. I didn't see any cheating/back chat/asking for cards etc and enjoyed it a lot more because of this.

I will never celebrate diving be it England/Liverpool or otherwise. Liverpool are my favourite team so I want them to win, but I never want them to win at any cost. That is why I don't think of myself as a hypocrite.

And Ronaldo was nowhere near as bad at the end of his United career as he was at the start. Did Ferguson have a word? That's what I mean about staff or other players changing the mindsets of the divers. If I could see that was happening, I wouldn't be as disappointed than if it happened, say in the QF of a world cup and nothing was said, as opposed to the FA or Roy coming out and saying it was wrong - we can't change what happened but we'll make sure he doesn't do it again.

I'd start with a no contact rule on diving. If you go down with no contact and don't own up to it. You get a once match ban. (It'd obviously be punishable after the game via video evidence.).

I do think alot of these dives are not so much players cheating...but losing balance and making the best of the situation but it's still cheating, if you gain a foul from it.
