As i said last night, I'm all for blooding the new players in, cause whats the point in playing Old Players, If they're all gonna retire, leaving a very inexperienced team for the next qualification.

Younger players like Lallana, Barkley, Townsend are all players who can make an impact, who you could see being a part of Englands future, maybe Rodriguez too, but players like Cleverley, Henderson, Welbeck and Gibbs i find very very ordinary, and i'd much rather experiment with players who are actually in form, or good players in general, I sat scratching my head when Huddlestone wasn't in the team, because that lads been in great form this season, yet Cleverley gets in? Based on what? Form... pah.

it's Why England will always be a joke. Pick on form, not reputation.

I thought Lallana didn't look out of place in both matches - vhe was one of the better ones.

Barkley looks a good one for the future, but it's defo the future. Unless there's a big improvement during the season he shouldn't be on the plane to Brazil.

Townsend ... well, I think his rep is more to do with the inane mutterings of his namesake on TV than it is to do with anything on the pitch. He costs much more to the team's game than he brings to it.

I was very impressed by Walker last night (and the last time he played).

Rooney was phemoninal in both these two games, too.

Agree that Cleverley is not clever, tho while I wouldn't play Henderson just yet I'm not sure he's one to give up on. He's the best looking hope we have for a future dynamic midfielder.

Wilshire? Come back in 3 or so years and we'll let you know then (I think much the same of him for Arsenal too).

High Res

Quite like the idea, similar to what they released before...but the angle is defiantly hiding how large the gap will still be.

Townsend has shown he can change games, he shone in a crap QPR team, and he's one of the better players in a much stronger Spurs lineup, but I still think he needs to gain a lot more consistency and get better at defensive work. I don't think he's as near the finished article as Walcott is, so if the latter's fit, Townsend shouldn't even be considered to start.

Glad you finished with the bit you did; it puts it into a context similar to my own. People bang on about Walcott's poor reading of the game or no end product, but Townsend is far worse for both and without Theo's technical skillset or speed either.

I think Walker's pretty poor, although that doesn't stop him potentially being the best RB option. He's good at running fast, but I'm not sure his tackling, marking or crossing is up to scratch. I doubt he'd even get in the squad of other top teams, but he might improve to be better than Glen I guess?

Walker's not been perfect, but i've felt his decision making for almost everything he does has been far better than the others who've played there recently-ish, except perhaps for G. Johnson.

Agree on Cleverley, Henderson's form for Liverpool has been improving, but I still don't think he'll ever be a world-beater. Decent squad player for a top-team maybe, but I can't see him ever looking like a top player.

Henderson did nothing of worth last night - tho the game died a death at around the point he came on (when Rooney and his energy went off), so I'm not sure if anything should be taken of that.

Otherwise tho I think he has the potential to become a team's hugely important midfielder in the, say, Gerrard or Lumpard style. There's glimpses of it now and then (in a similar way to how there is more regularly with Wilshire, tho in a different skills style) that has you think (or me, anyway) that he could become a very good player. Long way to go yet, but is improving.

I think Wilshere is a quality player with a lot about him, but there's no way he should be considered the heart of the team. His form is erratic and Arsenal don't tend to miss him when he doesn't play, far less than Rosicky/Arteta and other less lauded players in that team. Still, he's got a lot of attributes and I think it's right to persist with playing him, he certainly doesn't cost the team.

I think he's a quality player too, but it's not really clicking just yet.

I've lost count of the times (or both England and Arsenal) that he runs himself into a dead-end and loses the ball, and the other team has loads of space behind him to run into with the ball. If it's not been costing that's got to be down to just luck.

I guess he needs to play to work at it till it clicks into place, but i'd say that should be with Arsenal and not England until then.

Aren't Gibbs and Henderson young players in form playing regularly for teams at the top end of the league? Hardly picking on reputation there, they aren't flashy MOTD players. In fact not sure what more they could do to get a go.

Problem with England is everybody moans when the established players get played every game regardless, yet moan when reasonably talented youngsters get a game.

just been looking at the fixtures for the weekend - and there's three games of teams around the top playing each other: Everton/L'pool, Arsenal/Soton, & City/Spurs.

Man Utd and Chelsea have the 'easy' games - but with the way things have been going so far this season there's a decent chance of an upset in at least one of those.

The table could look very different by Monday.

So is Welbeck, i find it mystifying that Monreal doesn't get a game for Arsenal, as i think he's a far better player than Gibbs, and whilst Henderson may have improved, he's still not an International level player imo.

I don't think their International Calibre. Whereas I feel Townsend, Walker, Barkley, Sturridge, Lallana and Wilshere could be that kind of player, although every single one of them, have a LONG way to go, and the perfect opportunity for them to gain experience is by being at a World Cup. I didn't watch the Chile game, so couldn't possibly comment on Rodriguez' performance, There will be players who'll need bringing in soon, not as soon as the World Cup i shouldn't think, but Ravel Morrison could sneak in, and Will Hughes, is certainly one to pay attention to, if he can make the step up!
