I think the likes of MCR, Lostprophets and Feeder were the wildcards when they played. Of course, they don't really move away from the norm too much anymore, which makes me a bit suspicious of the constant Nickelback mentions.

There is absolutely no way that'll be the headlining threesome. I don't usually like to state with such certainty over things like this, but I can absolutely guarantee that this won't happen, as it would be waaaaaay against the grain for Download headliners, and why change a winning formula?

where has this wildcard this came from? C&S was kind a tongue in cheek thing thing and I reckon it could be them so soon if it wasn't them other two. at least it wouldn't be as bad as just bringing a head back two years later like DL - it'd actually be a progressive booking from what was a successful set by all accounts.

one other thing to note is that there was a slight co-incidence in Andy booking Download people and Deadmau5 stating about 2014 being big and meetings etc. Read it on the download board, could be absolutely nothing but it was said Deadmau5 wants to come back with a huge production and the two tied in nicely.

Deadmau5 would be way too different for DL - The Prodigy/C&S have parts of their live show done with a live band - guitars and drums, so there is an element of rock there but Deadmau5 is pure dance - all his work is produced on a laptop, not the type of act that I could see going down well next year tbh.

+ Deadmau5 is shockingly shit live. Saw him at Hyde Park last year and I didn't enjoy a single moment of it - The drop in Strobe was so disappointing... I hope he never gets booked for DL. Ever.

I'd be really surprised if he got Van Halen! If he got them, he'd have to break the bank and the rest of the line up would suffer.

I doubt he'd have to break the bank, no other festivals will be after them and they must be aware that they're nowhere near as big here as they are in the US.

That works under the pretense that they want to play Download and that they will be in Europe next summer.

A one off European show for a US band that isn't the keenest to play the show will require a huge cheque to get them here.

There is no rumblings of a European tour, they couldn't even finish their US tour and they've (supposedly) pulled out or mucked Copping around before. To me that says they'd have to stump up a lot of cash to get them

Foo Fighters would be a fine headliner for Download. No difference between them and many other bands that have played multiple times before. Just a good solid hard rock band with a massive status.
