Nick Cave

Midnight Man

Recommended Posts

This reminds me of the time Nick Cave borrowed a light from me outside the Fitzherbert

I had a couple of beers and just went 'sure thing' & 'cheers' when he handed it back to me, he knows everyone at The Fitz knows who he is so I thought why say anything cliche?

But among a stone cold front of 'eh cool, it's you' I was trembling on the inside and quickly had to make use of The Fitzherberts tiny and quite uncomfortable toilet facilities.

I think it's cool he goes to little nights like that still and is totally able to blend in and appreciate these small indie promoted nights.

Didn't Grinderman say they were finished for a bit? And if they didn't, what stage would they go on? Couldn't see them on the pyramid or other stage unless they went on earlyish, wouldn't really suit them though.. No really what the JP is about..

They were badass man, for their 2nd album was at the opening night of the tour in Notts & they were really up for it..

Shit, I always block out the fact Nick said they're properly over. Hopefully they have a change of heart somewhere down the line - there has to be a third coming! Park header would be divine.

I forgive you then! Grinderman for Glasto 2014? Ugh even typing that makes me feel queasy...

Russy, I always thought you wrote off Jack The Ripper a bit swiftly. It's a live classic, one of my favourites. Henry's Dream will never be my favourite album though.

Old Nick is still doing dates after next year's Glastonbury! If they came back they'd be at 2015 at least. With a bit of luck you won't be suffering from the No Ticket Blues then.

Two words: THE PARK.

He did say they'd split up but then they went on to do Coachella soon afterwards so I don't really believe him. Seen them three times and (unsurprisingly) was blown away each time.

I totally overlooked the park, they'd be brilliant for that.. Can't see it happening though which is a shame, think he's happier doing the bad seeds stuff at the mo' (rightly so, hammersmith was fantastic).. Also saw them at the forum for the first album, suicide & some unknown blues man supported, remember suicide getting loads of grief but I thought they were the nuts!

Twas Seasick Steve! :D

I was there too, Suicide were bloody awesome but the crowd didn't get it at all! Such a great gig. I also saw Grinderman at Hammersmith and in HMV (!) as part of some MOJO awards. They were insanely loud in the latter and scared the heck out of loads of tourists I'm sure :)

Ah, I miss them. They would absolutely rule in The Park.

You've got me started on Grinderman now. Is this the best intro to a song ever?

"I had to get up to get down to start all over again
Head on down to the basement and shout
Kick those white mice and black dogs out
Kick those white mice and baboons out
Kick those baboons and other motherfuckers out
And get it on get it on get it on"

Or perhaps it's this:

"My face is finished
My body's gone
And I can't help but think
Standing up here in all this applause
And gazing down at all the young and the beautiful
With their questioning eyes
That I must above all things love myself"

Anyone who hasn't heard them must rectify this immediately.

Let's give people a little help here :)

Did anyone see Grinderman briefly on the ATP film? That was pretty cool. Warren was going around chatting to other performers about how good other acts were. And he said "I was a really big fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds until I joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, then I wasn't" or something and Nick grins and says "me too".

I know it was seasick, just being daft..

Get It On is one of the best intros EVER to anything.. Crank that one up..

Glad you liked suicide, man I thought I was alone..

Remember seasick shouting 'can y'all here me at the back?' To raucous cheers then saying 'I'll turn the bass down then' and kicking his box away.. Was badass without his drummer..

The more I think of it the more grinderman become a better fit for the park, I swear he's given them up though..

Yep, think it was just me and you! Do you remember at the end all three acts came out and did a kind of jam together? Was such a good gig.

Last year I was really hoping they might pop up as a secret set there given that Nick was on the farm. Would have been all kinds of wonderful.

Fuck! A secret Cave gig.. Grinderman in the rabbit hole? Does that thing even exist?

Yeh I remember that jam. Seasick looked like he was belting some copper pipe of a stanchion fairly out of time from where I was.. Had imbibed cider quite heavily mind..

The rabbit hole? It's at the top of The Park, just past the ribbon tower.

How about Nick in the underground piano bar? If that thing even exists...

Now look, me and CarlosJ, we will get you a ticket!! Don't despair

Offer still stands :-)

Much as I love my family, there are times I wish they were all out somewhere on a Friday night so I could crank up No Pussy Blue and others. Setting a good example on language and behaviour to a 10, 12 and 14 year old is really shit sometimes :-p

Sod setting a good example. Nick Cave is the best example!

Thanks, I do appreciate it by the way. Just not quite that simple as I have more than myself to buy for - but we'll see.

Well we've all got ours (sorreee).

But that means that we can definitely try for others. so in for one, in for all

I think closer to it there'll be some sort of movement to get those who missed out in.

You know what, I've had so many kind offers of help that I feel a teeny bit overwhelmed. Enough to bring a tear to my eye!

Just goes to show that if you moan enough people will do anything to shut you up! :P

And the movement already has a name: NFiR NFC
