Is it legal for venues or promoters to make up any rules they want?

On what grounds can a venue stop you taking in a bottle of water? It can't be because of security when they're selling bottles inside the venue. And what about food? My sister went to Lovebox last week and wasn't allowed to take in sandwiches! Obviously they want to make money on their own rip off, and probably inferior, food. But are they really allowed to do it? What if they don't sell any food that you like, or maybe you have special dietary requirements...?? Can I take some chewing gum in or is that banned too...?

but they make the regulations, and they can't just make any regulation can they? We will refuse entry to anyone wearing striped socks..? We have some rights, don't we? There has to be a reason for the regulations they put in place, no?

I'm not exactly shocked, or surprised.

There are laws in place that are more relevant to the conditions of sale in many instances. If you buy something that only has a 1 month guarantee (for example), and stops working after 5 weeks, you're protected. It doesn't matter what the seller might say, something has to work.

It's the same with lots of other things. I just wonder whether promoters, might be taking the piss when they say you can't take sandwiches in to a concert, like Lovebox. You might be going with a family, and you don't want to, or can't afford to spend the whole day buying what they have on offer.

Are you (Barry) saying that a promoter should be allowed to make any rule they want to?

Their venue their rules... Don't like the rules don't buy the ticket ?

Look at it from the other angle... Why should you be able to turn up to someones private property and feel like you can do as you please?

My understand is that it can be made a condition of a venues license.

I would imagine that is then left to the venue how they meet that requirement. Pretty sure no venue will be given a blanket order to allow people to bring in bottle of their own water. Lots of festival provide free water taps for example.

I have had free bottles of water handed to me when at the front of gigs when its hot and cramped.

awww bless.... You do struggle with the big scary world don't you :P

Chances are you would of bought that bottle of water or some other drink inside the venue. So you was basically robing them of potential revenue. Is it that hard to understand :P

We can get into the pros and cons of tap water vs bottled water but in general I would prefer a bottle of decent water over a venues tap water. I would prefer to pay for the bottled water personally so I do feel there is a revenue issue.

Also a lot of people don't know their rights and will just accept paying for bottled water. So it is a revenue issue I feel. Also you need to factor in that people do try to bring in vodka etc.

No...

They would only be making up there own rules if when asked for free water they didn't provide / make available said water...

The only rules they are "making up" are the ones they are allowed to it would seem.

you do know that tap water is often of better quality than bottled water, don't you?

Bottled water ius the world's biggest con. It's sold for more money than petrol, because mugs like you have been conned via advertising into thinking it's actually something better.

There's a reason why the Coca Cola company are selling bottled water that has got into the bottle via the water mains - and that's because water is water is water, and mugs are mugs are mugs!

As usual you take a fact and run a country mile with it to the point where it ends up bollocks. A lot of bottled water is a con. Specially the cheaper stuff you get in supermarkets. Some of it though is genuine spring / mineral water and I find the taste of some of it much nicer than tap water.

On the flip a lot of tap water is great stuff. I love my local tap water. But at the same time a lot of tap water is fucking awful. large old venues with very old pipes can ruin the best quality tap water as well.

Yeah because hard and soft water are exactly the same aren't they.. "Rolls eyes"

And all water tastes the same doesn't it :)

Hard water and soft water tastes different to everyone, and most people prefer the water-type that they first experienced as a child.

There is *NO* difference between bottled water - (IYO) both 'good' and 'bad' - there is merely a difference in the mineral content dependent on where it's sourced from.

*ALL* bottled water is a con. There is nothing that is "quality" about any of it, there is only a different source to somewhere else, exactly as there's a difference source between the tap water I drink in my town to the tap water you drink in your town.

You're one of those people who would have rated that Coca Cola bottled tap water as something special just because you paid money for it and it came in a bottle.

You struggle with this science stuff don't you. Last week you thought a women being induced was something to do with a c-section :D

PMSL - I said no such thing, but you meanwhile insisted that you'd never mentioned 'law' even when I quoted your own words mentioning 'law' back at you.

Some of us can read and evaluate, you just make it up from prejudices.

So there is NO DIFFERENCE despite the mineral content and the source... So it IS different then LMAO

You are pretty good at rubbishing your own bullshit which is rather helpful :)

the differences in bottled water are the same differences as exist within tap water - which gets to mean there's nothing different at all with bottled water over tap water.

The only differences are the differences in location. That's a different thing to any difference in the water.

What of that is beyond your ability to think?

All of it of course, because you buy bottled water in the belief that it's "better". You are a marketing man's wet dream.

You said Kate was too posh to push because she had been induced :) Moron :)

As I said, I said no such thing. :)

Yet again you are claiming things where the words prove beyond all doubt that your claim is false. Just as you did last week.

In the absence of his brain, barry will always make it up.
