What's your take on people filming gigs/festival sets?

Was at a festival a couple of weeks ago and someone was pretty much filming all the way through depeche mode on there smartphone.

It's getting worse at gigs/festivals with sticking there cameras/phones in the air recording songs/sets.

Few years ago was bad enough with people clicking away, at least it was a click here a click there. Filming though it spoils it for the majority.

Bjork has the right idea and bans all cameras and filming at her gigs.

Cameras are fine if it's the odd one but people filming are c**ts imo. I never understood it myself, surely the memory of actually watching them is better than watching a piss poor vid clip later.

Absolute waste of time in my mind. Why watch it through a shitty 5" screen when you can see it in super super HD right in front of you

I still feel odd about it! Occasionally and only occasionally you end up with a decent youtube clip of a rarity but even then, alot of the decent clips is someone whose taking it seriously and standing by the sound desk.

I'd probably sacrifice that not to have 100 cameras recording the gig though. Doesn't help with a lot of acts, encouraging it by asking for fan shot video either for a cheap promo video!

Yes not much fun being stood behind someone with a phone held up for the whole gig, at least with bands you want to hear the hits again and again, can't imagine what its like for comedians when they've spent weeks on a whole new skit for a tour and then someone shouts out the punch line on only their second gig because its already up on youtube.
