Arcade Fire

They didn't play Wake Up as the Reflectors in London (what a jip) but they did give Crown of Love a rare outing which was pretty special.

I thought that AF and James Murphy would be the dream combination but I was wrong. Reflector did very little for me and sapped my enthusiasm for them a little. Hopefully the new material will dial back the disco.

I was at the Reflektor gig at Blackpool. Same experience there, amazing. One of the few times I've seen an act play so many new and at that time unknown songs but each one received as if they were old favourites.

Nah.  I wouldn't go that far.  It was clear that a lot of  the new material was pretty weak.

I hope they carrying on experimenting with the shows a little though, I thought the whole Reflektor tour was pretty cool (and just epic in parts) mand its good to see bands considering something else than just standing in front of people on stage with some pretty lights. (Even if essentially that is mostly what they done :P)

Maybe every few albums or something. The regular ten-man-band thing works well enough. It's doubtful you'd look at it and say "need a bit more theatrics", right?

No new songs last night but I picked up on Arcadefiretube that they say the material premiered Friday was described as being “dynamic, danceable rock. With a sharp focus on heavy topics like religion and social and media pressures with percussive-heavy beats and an occasional flavor of disco”. Still no idea what to make of that but it sounds like Arcade Fire. :thumbsu:

Arcade Fire were the first headliner I saw at the first glasto I went to. Wasn't disappointed, the whole spectacle even got a few tears out of me. Glad to hear they have new material coming out.

Does anyone have a download of the bbcs recording of the whole set? I can't find a download anywhere and it'd be really nice to watch it all again.

It's a bit 'meat and potatoes'

I concur. On quite a lot of it they somehow manage to make themselves sound like not much more than a three-piece (Ready to Start). Lacks the depth of their first two/best two albums.

Seen them live six times, and they only time it's really ever come alive for me properly was at Glasto (on the Pyramid).

Devil's advocate time - does anyone honestly see them headlining again in the next few years?

Any reason there would be an issue do you think? They went down alright and got a decent enough crowd last time.

Can't see V or Reading being that fussed either. Bestival possibly? Prob too big for Latitude.

New material makes me very happy. I've only ever managed to see them once live (at the atmosphere sponge that is the O2) so I have to see them again. Have always been on holiday or at a wedding or some thing and missed the other tours.

Actually I have vague recollections of seeing them at Glasto in 2007 but I'm not counting that.

Oh and I love Reflektor, definitely not their best album but I still love it.

Although their fans I know loved it and as the headliner pool dwindles, maybe they will be asked to return. Not sure how bothered they'd be about doing it either.

Critics seemed to appreciate it too.  Really don't see why not and obviously they're not gonna go away so album after next I think they're fair game.

Doesn't linger long in the memory, tbh.  I was there and - even if I found it patchy at the time -  I really don't remember much about it.

Like most of 2014's bill-toppers, to be fair.

Agree with this to an extent. Not sure what I'd cut though..  maybe Half Light 2 and Sprawl 1.

Gonna have a listen now and see. Would initially say Modern Man, Rococo, maybe Wasted Hours, Sprawl I. Let's see.
