They will be all over festival season 2023.

Nah, not this time around. Festivals in particular are much more aware of their public image nowadays, social media presence and what artists they book, and this story has coincided with the period most of them will be locking in headliners. They might do a few lower key ones but almost certainly won't be on the usual suspects they'd play normally.

They'll be back in 2026 or whatever once the dust's settled.

2026 with a New York times article written about how they're stronger than ever after braving some 'tough' years and how Win is a good husband now

What do you want the media to do? Report the same story every day forever? Do you want the media to report on all the war crimes of WW1 everyday in addition to every other major news story that has ever happened?

If there is no new information then there is nothing to report.

I also don't believe people will forget this story, the details yes but not the gist of it.

Not quite sure why the aggressive tone was merited, but there you go…

Never said at any point that the media should keep reporting it, why would they? Was just stating the reality that the world will move on and 3-4 years from now when they return the story will be largely be forgotten by the majority of people.

I won't be seeing again. Just depends how many others will take a similar stance once. I imagine it's a lot easier to not spend £60 on a ticket than deciding to go once you've already spent the money. The favour they gained from their earlier work also stands for a lot less now considering their albums have become increasingly mediocre.

You'd think surely a lot of festivals wouldn't touch them too surely?

Most recent album is ace.

No aggression meant. I was just commenting on the absurdity of how I interpreted your statement: sadly the media circus will move on. I think my interpretation was reasonable.

I think the story will not be forgotten by people. Maybe by people who just know of arcade fire through this story or have vaguely heard of them previously but not by fans. Fans may choose to ignore the story when buying future tickets or albums or they may decided it is not a deterrent but they are not going to forget

I mean, there's a few decent songs, a few mid ones and I stopped listening to it fairly soon after it was released (before the allegations). Seems par for the course with much of their release, few quality tunes and the rest a bit crap.

Well the critics and I tend to respectfully disagree 🙂

Three reviews over 7 on Metacritic, it's hardly set the world alight. Mostly middling.

It will be nominated for no awards and I've not seen anyone mention it since it was out. Hardly been the second coming of Funeral and contains more of Win's old man yells at a cloud painful lyrics.

Well, once the tour left the British soil, this thread, where the forum members had posted countless scathing comments on Win and the group, went into complete radio silence for over two weeks. Let alone the general public.

You’re really upset by these allegations aren’t you? Very keen for it to go away.

14 reviews over 70. 4 of 70.

Sadly even on this technicality, they've been declining for years, the lead singer's a weird dude at best and as with all bands/creepy dudes, they'll always have a following of similarly creepy dudes like the few of you in this thread who worship him as your messiah.

Best of luck to you all

The technicality that it's almost universally liked by critics? OK. Not sure I can help you with that logic.

Not worshipping anyone here, think I said a few posts ago I wouldn't go and see them, but hey - don't let that get in the way of your agenda. You sound like Liz Truss going on about reducing the cost of bills this winter 😅

I thought WE was ok, not as good as the early ones but not as bad as Everything Now.

Not sure if you saw them live (I was lucky enough to get tickets for the album launch, pre Wingate) and the new stuff is superb with a full band.

Would agree though doesn’t reach the heights of the first four.

Nah, didn’t go to the last tour. Ticket prices put me off long before the Win stuff came out.

IMO, WE doesn’t have the low points of Everything Now but the high points aren’t nearly as high either which leaves if as a bit of an unremarkable listen. Haven’t felt any need to go back to it since it’s initial release, regardless of the Win drama, and it seemed to leave the conversation almost immediately where EN stayed around for years after, even if it was just to get largely dunked on.

To be fair, none of their outputs from Neon Bible onwards has been the second coming of Funeral although Neon Bible and The Suburbs are both great albums in their own right. Funeral is just sublime, untouchable — for me it is the greatest rock album released in this century up to this point.

The noticeable decline of the quality started with Reflektor IMHO.

As for Everything Now…better left untold (I must say, though, the title track played as the main set closer on the current tour sounded surprisingly good, even uplifting, amidst all this ongoing scandal).

WE? I haven’t heard it yet (am I a worshipper?).

Agreed. I think Everything New is a better album anyway but as you say, WE is just a bit boring in comparison. The Lightning and Rabbit Hole are great but everything else ranges from fine to boring, whereas at least Chemistry and the Infinite Contents were a good laugh. The 9 minute End of the Empire stretch is probably the worst thing they’ve released.
