Arcade Fire

Apparently fancy dress is now mandatory for the festival and you won't be let in without. ;)

You know what I never do fancy dress but I'm considering doing it for Arcade Fire. Think if the majority of people did it for them it would help add to the atmosphere.

I must admit, I only cared for arcade fire at the beginning of this year when I finally sat down and threw myself into their stuff.

I would / have been one of those people doubting they'd ever headline but after reflektor I'm sold they will put on an amazing show. Sad I won't be there to see it, but you can't have it all!

I think they must be the most 'glastonbury' band you can get to headline! However i'm quite upset at the backlash? Maybe eavis expected this?

Booking the stones in 2013 was a curse just as much as a blessing, it's raised people's expectations forever...

I just find it incredible. It leaves me stunned that there's a backlash against which bands Mr Eavis chooses to headline Glastonbury. People's sense of entitlement these days is just staggering.

There are a couple of dozen stages, the festival gives a large chunk of its profits to charities, pays bands far less than any of the other major alternatives, and has a socio-political history and conscience that you should at least have a slight awareness of before buying a ticket. Besides anything else, it's mr Eavis' choice who he bloody well wants to book, and the demand for tickets far outstrips supply.

This whole, spoiled 'ooh it's a disgrace, how can you book X instead of Y?' attitude is just such a fucking disappointment to me and a sad sign of the way the demographic has shifted steadily over the years towards a bunch of passive consumers who don't give a shit what the festival does stand and has stood for.

(wasn't having a pop at you, Matt!)

Nice post :)

Hope you get to wear your Bananaman costume (even though I think bananas are intrinsically evil).

Completely agree with this mate, what other band is as suited to headlining the Pyramid than AF? They will absolutely smash it come that Friday night and I will be there, probably in tears!

I'm astounded that there could be any backlash about anything whatsoever at a festival with more stages than I can count hosting muscians playing for the best part of all day, for three days straight. I'm not familiar with AF so I'll listen to their stuff before the festival but if I choose not to go to that gig, it just means there are a hundred other gigs I have to choose from.

The very notion of a 'headliner' at a festival this large is a bit tenuous, I reckon. It's more about satisfying the ego of the band and the wallets of their management than it is about anything else. I for one am delighted that there will be a band I've never seen before who I can enjoy for the first time in such an amazing place.

(First post, that. Hello everyone!)
