Lineup 2015

Okay then. 3 of my friends on Facebook like The Rolling Stones and that's you, MattDavies and justanothername. And lots of my friends who saw them at Glasto last year clearly must not know them as they haven't liked them on Facebook. I don't think it's a good representation at all - I don't bother to like bands on Facebook anymore, except a few of the smaller, local acts. People just aren't bothered by things like that anymore

Well my point was mainly that if I know 31 people who actively like Arcade Fire (most likely more, as your post here suggests), then I'm sure there'll be more than one person Matt knows who is aware of Arcade Fire.

Dw - I was the one who called Matt's bs to begin with! I agree with that point but I was just jesting that fb likes aren't really a valid source :P

Wait who is Lewis Cato?

Is it rawaudioinput?

How have I again managed to not realise I follow one of you?

Yeah he is.

Lol wtf I know tonnes of people who like Arcade Fire. 31 of my friends like them on Facebook.

I'm going to guess that you are one of those people that has about 1000 'friends' on facebook.

A lot of my friends are into the alternative music scene yet only 7 of my friends like them on facebook.

Arcade Fire are certainly a known band but I totally understand those who may not know a song by them. Considering we're using facebook as a judge, these worldwide 'like' figures are quite interesting and show AF as a big but ultimately medium size band.

Arcade Fire: 2.3 Million

Kasabian: 1.5 Million (still haven't made it at all in the USA)

Metallica: 37 Million

Paramore: 29 Million

Queens of the Stone Age: 2.9 Million

Arctic Monkeys: 5.8 Million

Kings of Leon: 12 Million

Vampire Weekend: 2.2 Million

We know they're a medium sized band. Our point was that we doubt someone on here only knows one person who's heard of them.

They aren't interesting and they don't show anything, other than that 29 million people in the world have decided to click a 'like' button on a social network site for the band Paramore. Does that mean that 29 million people actually like Paramore, or know their music, or buy their records? No of course not. Does it mean that Paramore are ten times bigger or more well known that Queens, or that Vampire Weekend are the same size or as well-liked as Arcade Fire. No of course not.

Define big, strong, commonly and average.

big - at a size where they can headline festivals such as Glastonbury and Reading, where those who look and are interested in music like arcade fire know them. They don't just discover bands by wacking on radio one.

strong - they have a solid fanbase, but i'd argue outside their fanbase (especially in the UK). You will get alot of people which haven't heard of them, and those who have probably can't name alot of songs.

commonly - You couldn't just ask a random person, "hey name 5 songs" or whatever and they could do it with ease.

Average - Anyone you'd want to ask.

Define 'interested in music', 'solid fanbase', what you consider to be 'a lot of songs' and 'could do it with ease'.

I'm pretty sure you can figure it out.

All I can figure out at the moment is that you're talking out of your arsehole and using vague phrases that you can't define to make sweeping generalisations.

I want to know what you think these terms mean, although I doubt you even know.
