lharris92
Except Melvin said he's got headliners that no one would expect for Reading/Leeds It was rather that he said there was one that wasn't a regular, wasn't it? Like Linkin Park. Please sauce where Radiohead are "reading regulars" and honestly who could say they would expect them. Besides all Melvin has to do is have hot air come out of his mouth until it sells a ticket to someone, then repeat until people see the lineup and pay for it if its bands they want to see
2rare2die
Never has, fucking Northerners I've know Leeds sell out within a couple of hours back in the mid 2000's, so it's obviously pulled it's weight at some point, son

Chavmeisterdeluxe
I took my girlfriend to see Ed Sheeran the other night for her birthday and enjoyed the show. If they book another big mainstream non rock sub I wouldn't mind it being him. Also he's turned down IOW already for next year (and merked Giddings in the process) and did V and Glastonbury this year so could be a possibility. dentalplan
...Not again anyway. I think I read he's taking a break from music after he's finished his tour.

foolee
I could see him subbing, he'd have some crossover and would be a step forward from Macklemore, if they're going different I could see something like this going down well. The Prodigy Ed Sheeran Jamie T
Matt42
He really surprised me at T, surprised that he now has beef with iow, he was an act that I'd have 'nailed on' for IOW this year... I think he may steer clear of the U.K this summer and instead tour America or wherever. He played a lot of UK shows last year!
dentalplan
When it became apparent that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were doing European festivals around R+L, not one person questioned whether they were too mainstream and wouldn't fit in at the festival, everyone just got on with deciding where they'd play. I don't know why they're now a beacon for acts people wouldn't consider playing then appearing on the bill.

dentalplan
Weren't you the one originally saying Ed Sheeran would never play reading again? Yeah. My point was that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis haven't opened the door for a whole bunch of acts, rather than... the entire opposite.
foolee
I disagree, Ed Sheeran could easily sub with the right headliner, I wouldn't say there are too many right headliners but can see it working below the prodigy.
Chavmeisterdeluxe
Is this why Giddings had a paddy about him being boring? Yeah, gigwise posted an article about Giddings saying he was boring and Ed replied saying something along the lines of it being odd as he'd asked him to play a few weeks ago and he turned him down due to another gig.
Matt42
Really unprofessional to slag off acts that reject offers, Ed said no because he was busy that weekend, not because he hates the festival or whatever.
dentalplan
That's not why Giddings said it. He said that the industry wasn't building headline acts and - probably tongue in cheek - that if 'boring' acts like Ed Sheeran were the future then 'we're all screwed'. Gigwise ran the article as a click friendly 'IOW boss calls Ed Sheeran a boring headliner' and Ed Sheeran responded saying that he'd just been asked recently. Probably not to headline though, if I may add.

justanothername
The new Shikari is alright, really liked the start but it doesn't do anything different (reminds me of Common Dreads material)

Nothing odd about a festival organiser being aware that mainstream commercial music fans like boring music. He's not in it to book bands he likes, he's in it to make the festival profitable. alan77
So after reading the article about the headliner that is booked I have been trying to think who it would be So its not someone we would expect and not a regular - so perhaps good to look at genre I can't see it being a metal band or pop punk as that is quite 'Reading' so therefore I think it may be either a rapper, Dj or big popstar or big mainstream band Calvin Harris? U2? Jay-Z/Kanye? Pharell? Coldplay?(on gigwise they were the first band to come up as possible headliners) Ed Sheeran (he would be the favourite) Rihanna? Beyonce?
