Smashing Pumpkins said something bitchy in an interview recently about a festival trying to book them below one hit wonder bands. Can't remember the quote exactly but it sounded like they may have been talking about R&L, so that'd make them more unlikely. Edit: And yeah, I'd say Vaccines/Two Door/Alt-J to sub Libertines. I just remember us saying it made them less likely and assumed the quote made it sound like R&L. But yeah what other UK fest would be offering them a slot below one hit wonder acts? Maybe T wanted them as their token one good act per year a la Pixies and MBV/Kraftwerk (okay two acts that year). I guess R&L must have offered them 3rd down below BMTH.
