I don't know if they need one. Like I said, they've been shuffling up the line up slowly without any massively successful albums and they're not gonna bring one out but I dunno. I think it's probably possible as they sub the other festivals they play. I reckon they'll be back either way.

Hmm, it's a tough one. Could you see them maybe headlining the NME opposite a very different sounding act? (Such as a rap or pop rock act?) Although it may seem like a step down at least they would have a great crowd and maybe even given a longer set? I don't really know but I too would like to see them somehow move up/get a bigger and better crowd than ever before.

Why would V want Arcade Fire?

Was just wondering if Deftones would move up a slot? They seem to come back every two years in a higher slot and I'm not really sure why as I don't think they're a growing band, really. But would it be possible that they sub?

They are a sub at Download but at reading which now days looks on more commercially successful acts they'rethree down at best.

Deftones' crowd started small and grew throughout, also the crowd was 20x more [citation needed] into it this year. I like that they probably could pull off a small arena tour (their academy tour sold out instantly) but they stick at the smaller venues. Can see Deftones sticking at the 3rd from top position, maybe headlining NME but they seem to slot on main stage too easily for FR to go for that.

The crowd didn't really grow at Leeds that much and it still could be a lot of people who were wanting to get a good spot for SOAD (even though you'd have thought they have a massive cross over in fans)

Their albums are always really critically acclaimed though aren't they? Even if they don't do as well commercially. They're pretty respected by a lot of bands too instead of being a turd like 30STM, so that probably helps.

Being critically acclaimed and liked by other bands doesn't help at all. Being a commercially succcessful turd is far more helpful.

The odd thing about Deftones is not their shuffling up the line up but they always play the same stage on the same day - 4th, 5th, 4th then 3rd on the main stage Friday. I can't really ever see them subbing, maybe they could headline the NME against a suitable headliner, I thought it may have been an option after their latest album but obviouly not against Green Day.

Maybe the band prefer to play the main stage, maybe the organisers think their name and sound give the main stage line-up some rock cred (in the way that Placebo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Interpol might if they were still relevant to the target audience). I think they'll play third next time (if there is a next time), if their next album is still reasonably popular across the board then maybe headline NME if there's a good match on the main stage but that's unlikely.

Yeah I see what you guys mean. Obviously they couldn't keep stepping up forever (Deftones 2017) but I wondered if it'd stop or go up one.

NME headliner would be good. Not sure what their actual fanbase is like to be honest and whether they'd do alright in a slot where people are dismissing a headliner to see them. They do seem to play main at every festival. I think I'd currently go for them playing 3rd down on the Chilis' day.

Elbow third down? I know they look low on the T and V lineups but aren't they headlining the second stage at both, which is about equivalent to a sub spot? Also subbing Glastonbury, supposedly. They're no smaller than in 2011 are they?

Edit: And Beady Eye subbing wouldn't surprise me too much. Headlined the second stage at T and V (well, before they pulled out) last year if I'm not mistaken.

Edit 2: And four bump ups in two years would be a fat load of shite.

Well they certainly haven't got any bigger :P Subbing at Glasto means nothing in relation to other fests (in fact Glasto as a whole doesn't mean a lot in relation to other fests) and I think dropping down to second stage is a bit of a hit, even if you are headlining it.

Still don't think they're big enough. At least Bugg has played an arena and has a number 1 album...

I'm all for it. Fresh blood is better is better than dragging out The Stone fucking Roses again.

Elbow have an arena tour coming up though and you got them third down.

Yeah but so have YMAS and they're third down too.

Don't think Eblow have sold any of their dates out yet?

YMAS aren't doing an arena tour.

It doesn't really matter if they're selling them out or not in the short run. If sales are so bad they downgrade venues on their next tour then they might start slipping down line ups.

Are they not? They're playing the arena here next month?

They've already started slipping down line-ups though. Considering who they've given the sub slots to this year I wouldn't be surprised if third is the best Elbow can get.
